Safety Management

SpanSet UK design, manufacture, supply, inspect, service and provide training for Height Safety, Lifting and Load Control equipment.

By specialising in our chosen market areas we are able to address and safely manage all of our customer requirements. Through continuous customer feedback and in our approach when dealing with the challenges faced by our customers our emphasis is on listening rather than talking, then drawing on extensive experience and global resources to find the most efficient solutions for you.

SpanSet offer training courses and technical advice for you to manage your own safety requirements. In some cases however the use of an external service provider to carry out this function as a whole is preferred. This approach passes the responsibility to SpanSet for all aspects of services. We can provide a service contract to suit your needs.

Based on our commitment to Quality, Service, Health Safety and the Environment, it is SpanSet’s aim to provide training and education that supports all our Height Safety, Lifting and Load Control products and associated techniques.

- As part of our Continuous Improvement programme and commitment to Health and Safety, SpanSet have just been awarded our new Accreditation to OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management Systems.

- In 2011 SpanSet gained accreditation to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

- SpanSet are the first training company to be audited by the BSI to the code of practice BS8454:2006 for the delivery of Training & Education for working at height and rescue. The assessment took place back in February 2008 and BS8454:2006 has now been included as part of our scope within ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

- Our scope of registration for all three Management Systems – ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 covers the following: The design, development, manufacture and overhaul of height safety, lifting, load control products and safety management systems. The provision of in-house and on-site courses covering the care, use, maintenance and legislation of height safety, lifting, load control products and safety management systems. The delivery of training and education for work at height and rescue in line with the code of practice BS 8454:2006.

- All three standards – ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 are independently assessed by the British Standards Institution each twice annually. These standards benefit the customer through the absolute assurance of both product quality and our stringent health and safety systems.

- SpanSet also hold approvals to Achilles UVDB, Achilles SQS Shell and Safecontractor all of which are independently assessed.

Inspection & Testing Service

Inspection & Testing Service European Standards dictate that all items of PPE for work at height and all safety systems undergo a periodic examination by a competent person. In addition, in the UK, “BS 8437:2005 Code of practice for selection, use and maintenance of personal fall protection systems and equipment for use in the workplace.” Section 13.1.2 –States “Formal inspection procedures should be put in place by employers to ensure that personal fall protection equipment is given a detailed inspection (“thorough examination”) by a competent person before first use and at intervals not exceeding 6 months (or 3 months where the equipment is used in arduous conditions), and after circumstances liable to jeopardise safety have occurred.

To ensure compliance SpanSet can offer an inspection, service and repair for Height Safety, Lifting and Load Control Equipment.

The success of the inspection guides and the opportunities new technology brings means that we have published then as an APP.

It includes all the information required to carry out pre use inspections or provide support to a competent person during thorough examinations for Harnesses, Lanyards and Connectors. InstallationsFor some tasks the measures you employ may be temporary, providing safe working conditions for the duration of the works and removed upon completion. This approach has limitations in that installation and removal of a temporary system may include some risk and can be time consuming. To help minimise the risks and ensure temporary solutions are effective SpanSet provide installation services for a wide range of our personal fall protection equipment.

In the case of tasks carried out regularly or repeatedly in locations where access is required more often a permanently installed safety system offers a better solution. The advantages are that once installed a permanent system provides safe conditions for all users. It is simple to use, easy to maintain and is unobtrusive having very little impact on the surrounding environment.
