a) ट्ाांसमिशन कने््स्ट्न्ट / Transmission Constraints:

S. No Corridor Season/ Antecedent Conditions

Description of the constraints Figure/ table no.

Has the constraint occurred in earlier quarter?

1 400kV Nellore Pooling Station - Nellore DC line

Whole Year

With Full Generation at SEPL (600 MW), MEPL (300 MW) & TPCIL (2x660 MW) , the 400kV NPS- Nellore D/C flow is usually more than 1500 MW and it has reached up to 1900 MW. With further commissioning of Units at MEPL(stage-2-2x350MW) , the problem will aggravate

Figure - a1 Yes

2

400kV Gooty-Nelamangala line & 400kV Gooty-Somanahalli line

Whole Year

With increase of SR Import to 5900 MW (ATC) and increase of Drawl by Karnataka & due to non-commissioning of 400kV Tumkur-Yelahanka DC line, the flow on 400kV Gooty-Nelamangala & 400kV Gooty-Somanahalli line are loading heavily without N-1 security. Loading on these lines have been partially relieved after 400kV Tumkur-Bidadi/Nelamangala rearrangement.

Figure - a2 Yes

3 400kV Udumalpet-Palakkad DC line

Whole year

Kerala drawl is mainly through 400kV Udumalpet-Palakkad D/C line. 400kV Mysore-Kozhikode DC line commissioned but the flow is limited by the ICT capacity at Kozhikode. Present loading on these lines is in the range of 420-500 MW.

Figure-a3 Yes

4 400kV Hiriyur-Nelamangala DC line

Whole year

With Full generation at Jindal TPS, Bellary TPS, Low generation at UPCL and high wind generation, the flow on 400kV Hiriyur-Nelamangala D/C line is continuously above 550MW. The commissioning of YTPS generators will further aggravate the situation. Non-commissioning of 400kV Tumkur-Yelahanka D/C line and its associated downstream 220kV network also is creating further increase in the line flow.

Figure-a4 Yes

5 220 kV Bangalore Metro Network

Whole Year

220 kV Metro networks (Bangalore Urban area) are now radialised to prevent overloading of lines. The radialisation decreases the reliability of supply.

- Yes

6

Overloading of 220 kV Shoolagiri- Hosur(TN)- Yerrandahalli- Somanahalli SC line

Whole Year

Somanahalli, Yerrandahalli and Hosur are Industrial areas. 220kV Yerandahalli is connected with Hosur(TN) and Somanahalli. Normally, 220kV Yerandahalli is split and part of its load is fed from Hosur (TN) as the Entire load cannot be met from either side (Somanahalli or Hosur). The line flow on this line is also causing high flows on Shoolagiri-Hosur 230 kV S/C line.

- Yes

7

220 kV Sharavathy-Shimoga lines (3 nos) and 220 kV Sharavathy-Talaguppa line (3Nos.).

During full generation in Sharavathi

With full generation at Sharavathy HEP (>900 MW) there is no N-1 reliability on 220 kV Sharavathy-Shimoga lines and With re-arrangement of circuits at Sharawathi, now there are 3 circuits to Talaguppa. With this the constraint relieved some extent.

- Yes

8

Constraints for Rayalaseema TPS Generation Evacuation

Whole Year

The Southern AP loads have increased and with increased generation at Rayalaseema TPP ( 5 units on bar at present , 220 MW each and 5th unit has been added without augmenting the evacuation system which was designed for 2 units of 220 MW) the line loadings on the following 220 kV lines are of concern, 220kV Chinakampalli-Renigunta S/C, 220kV Chinakampalli-Rajampeta S/C, 220kV Chinakampalli-Kalikiri S/C line, 220kV RYTPP-Chinakampalli D/C line and 220kV Tadikonda-Parchur - Ongole S/C line

- Yes

9

Transformation Capacity at 400/220kV Kozhikode SS

Whole Year

400kV Mysore-Kozhikode DC line is commissioned without enough Transformation capacity at 400/220kV Kozhikode, which became bottle neck for import of power in North Kerala.

- Yes

10 Constraints in Nagjheri PH evacuation

Whole Year

The 220kV Nagjheri – Ambewadi DC, 220kV Ambewadi – Narendra DC, 220kV Kaiga – Kodasally SC & 220kV Kadra – Kodasally SC lines are severely over-loaded. Re- conducturing of the above lines to HTLS is suggested.

11 Constraints in Chennai 230kV System

Whole Year

230kV Alamatty-Manali DC line, 230kV Manali-koratur, 230kV Kalavindapattu-S.PKoil, 230kV Kalavindapattu-Siruseri, 230kV NCTPS-ETPS line are severely loaded.

Other issues:

If the fault level has crossed 32 kA, the buses may also be highlighted. DR outputs, if any, for actual event

illustrating this to be attached.

o With Full generation at MAPS & Bhavni and with interconnection, the Fault MVA touching 25kA, the

rated capacity of breaker.

o The substations where fault level exceeds 40kA are as mentioned below:

400kV Nellore (PG) 400kV Nellore (AP) 400kV Tiruvalum (TN) 400kV Tiruvalum (PG) 400kV Nellore PS (PG)

Any substation layout which affected grid operation adversely could also be highlighted.

o It is recommended to have uniform rating of LV/400kV for Generator Transformers connected to 400kV grid directly then only optimization of tap position give fruitful results.

o Substations where parallel circuits are on the same diameter are as mentioned below: At 400kV Alamatty SS, Vallur D/C, Thiruvalum D/C, SV Chatram D/C, NCTPS D/C and 400/220kV

ICT-1&2 are on the same diameter. At 400kV Alundur SS, 400/220kV ICT-1&2 are on the same diameter. At 400kV Hinduja SS, 400kV KV Kota D/C and 400kV Kalpakka D/C are on the same diameter. At 400kV Kayathar SS, 400kV Karaikudi D/C and 400/230kV ICT-1&2 are on the same diameter. At 400kV Kudamkulam SS, 400kV Thirunelvelli D/C are on the same diameter.

Page 26: SOUTHERN REGION - SRLDC · 5. WIND GENERATION IN SOUTHERN REGION 6. SUMMARY REPORT a) Commissioning of new Generating units b) Commissioning of new Transmission lines c) Commissioning

At Kakatiya TPS, 400kV Warangal D/C and 400kV Gajwel D/C are on the same diameter. At 400kV KTPS SS, 400kV Khammam D/C and 400/220kv, 80MVA ICT & 400/11kV, 50MVA ICT are

on same diameter. At Mettur-III SS, 400kV Tiruvalum D/C, 400kV Arasur D/C and 400/230kV ICT-1 & 2 are on same

diameter. At 400kV Udumalpet SS, 400/220kV ICT 1 & 2 is on same diameter. At 400kV Nunna SS, 400kV Vemagiri Ckt-III&IV are on the same diameter. At 400kV Salem (TN) SS, 400/110kV ICT-1&2 and 400/230kV ICT-1&2 are on the same diameter. At 400kV Simhadri (AP) SS, 400kV Kalpakka ckt-1&2 and Kalpakka ckt-3&4 are on the same

diameter. At 400kV Simhadri Stg-2 SS, 400kV Vemagiri D/C and 400kV Gazuwaka D/C are on the same

diameter. At 400kV SV Chatram SS, 400/110kV ICT-1&2, 400kV NCTPS D/C , 400kV Alamaty D/C and

400/230kV ICT 1&2 are on the same diameter. At 400kV VTS-IV SS, 400kV Sattenpalli D/C on same diameter. At 400kV Ramagundam SS, both Chandrapur circuits are on same Dia. At 400kV Gooty SS, both Nellore PS circuits are on same Dia.

o In future, it is recommended to avoid parallel circuits on the same Dia for reliability purposes.

Many KPTCL Stations at 220 kV level are operated as single bus. Many State 220 kV stations do not

have bus bar protection. These issues are being taken up at PCC meetings.

Vallur TPS (1500 MW) and NCTPS-II (1200MW) generation is connected at 400kV Bus and No 230kV path is

available to give start up supply in case of Blackout. So there is a need to provide 230kV path.

Kudankulam Nuclear Power Station (2 X 1000MW) generation is connected at 400kV Bus and on 230kV side it

has to depend on small Hydro generation for startup supply in case of blackout. The same needs to be

enhanced.

Absence of LVRT feature in wind turbines:

o It is observed that wind generation about 500 to 1000MW in Tamilnadu control area pulls out

during a delayed fault clearance of fault in grid (fault in 400/230 or 110kV network in

Tamilnadu).

o The sudden wind loss resulted in increase of power flow on 765kV Solapur Raichur lines-1&2

and resulting in SPS operation

Presently the interstate line between Karnataka and Telangana 220kV Raichur TPS - Jurala SC is being

operated in radial mode. Operating this line in grid mode would improve the reliability of system.

The following Interregional links has to be explored for import of power by deficit region,

o 220kV Upper Sileru-Balimela S/C line

National HVDC project of Lower Sileru-Barasoor line right of way has to be used for New inter connection

between SR & NEW Grid.

Due to non-commissioning of NGR bypass scheme, the conversion of line reactor into bus reactor is not

possible in the following lines, unless line shutdown is taken and jumper rearrangement works are done

which will take about 3 – 4 hours.

o 765 kV Kurnool-NPS-1&2

o 765 kV Kurnool-Thiruvalam-1&2

o 765 kV Nagapattinam – Dharmapuri 1 & 2 (Charged at 400kV)

o 765 kV Tuticorin PS – Dharmapuri 1 & 2 (Charged at 400kV)

Presently one line each of 765 kV Kurnool-NPS DC and 765 kV Kurnool-Thiruvalam DC are kept open due to

high voltage.

230kV MAPS – Bhavini line (80 MVA) is used for only startup purpose is always kept open. 230kV
