JuneNarrative Journey (Available Monday)

Well done, Treasure Hunters!

Last week, you successfully managed to locate Mrs Reed’s lost treasure. Now that you know exactly where Port Royal is, it’s time to gather as much information as you can to send to the client. Mrs Reed will need to know all about the geography of this part of the world and it would also be wise to research the history of Port Royal to send to our client. Who knows what useful information we might discover?

History (1st - Monday’s task)

If the treasure map is the genuine article, like Mrs Reed’s father has always believed, there has to be some evidence of this treasure’s existence. Treasure Hunter’s resident cartographer estimates the map to be approximately 400 years old and dates from around the early 1600’s. It’s time to research the history of Port Royal and uncover the secrets of the past.

Geography (2nd – Tuesday’s task)

As you now know, Port Royal is a village located at the mouth of Kingston Harbour on the southern coast of Jamaica. Mrs Reed and her team of archaeologists will want to visit this location so we need to provide them with a detailed map of the area. Make sure your map identifies: The surrounding countries Nearby islands The nearest seas and oceansAdditionally, you may want to provide Mrs Reed with some information about the climate of Jamaica at this time of the year.

English (3rd – Wednesday task)

After completing this week’s history and geography task, it is now time to pass this information to Mrs Reed. This week’s English task is to write Mrs Reed an email which explains where you believe the treasure is located. In the email, you should also share any historical information that you discovered about Port Royal.

MathsFor the next couple of weeks, we are going to work on our arithmetic skills each day. We are going to practise answering these questions accurately and at speed. By the end of the term, we will be completing a full arithmetic paper. There will be optional additional work on MyMaths which you can complete using the lesson and the homework.

Science (Available Thursday)

This week in science, we would like you to investigate mirrors. Mirrors reflect light really well because they are smooth, shiny and flat and the light rays can bounce of their surface at the same angle. When we look in a

Make sure you use the guidance sheet to help you with your email.

mirror, the light reflected creates a clear image but we are reversed.

Your first task is to write mirror messages to your family. To do this you have to write each letter backwards starting with the last letter of the word. Using a mirror, your family can decipher your message.

Your second challenge, is to use a mirror to help you see around a corner. Position your mirror where a door to another room is open. If your mirror is angled correctly, you should be able to stand back, look in the mirror and see into the other room. You could try and copy a family member’s silly face if you both look into the mirror at the same time.

ReadingIn guided reading, we will read an extract from a non-fiction book to learn more about amazing ancient discoveries.
