Stand lighting Work is complete on installing the first LED aircraft stand lighting in a European airport. The lighting was tested last year with a resounding approval from pilots and staff and will be a marked improvement in the safety of the airfield operation as well as providing considerable cost savings and reductions in energy consumption of around 75%. Work has started on replacing all car park lighting with LED lights.

6. Management & Staff

Breeze Through Awards (Monthly) – September to December 2012 Southampton Airports recognition scheme, The Breeze Through Awards, recognises outstanding staff. Staff can nominate their own team, another team or individual with support from the relevant manager. Monthly winners receive a trophy, and have their case study displayed across the airport.

September September’s award went to Mark Collins from Servisair who came to the aid of a family who had landed at the Airport without their child’s car seat. Unable to travel home in their car, with their child without it, they were faced with using a taxi, where children aren’t legally required to be in a car seat, split the family up and wait for alternative transport. Mark came to their aid lending them his own car seat and followed them home. October October’s award went to Dave Hayes of ServisAir who went above and beyond when an elderly couple were stranded in Southampton at 22:00 after their flight to Guernsey turned back due to bad weather. The couple, both in wheelchairs, had been in Southampton visiting the hospital to have treatment on their eyes and were still recovering. They were put up in a hotel for the evening, but recognising how vulnerable the couple were Dave drove out to the hotel to help them check in before returning home to start an early shift at Gatwick the next day. November November’s winner was Marie Fitzgerald from World Duty Free who provided support to and elderly lady in a wheelchair sat alone, by offering to take her to get some refreshments, then taking her around WDF while she waited for her flight. The lady was so touched by Marie’s compassion that she asked how she could write and thank her. December December’s Breeze award went to Laura Cox from Aramark who noticed a disabled gentleman on his own in Mitchells and identified the need to assist him. Laura sat with the gentleman talking him through the food and drinks menus, placing his order for him and ensuring that the gentleman was given a high level of personal service to his table. Laura then went the extra mile when the gentlemen requested directions to the disabled toilets, rather than just explaining to the gentleman Laura went out of her way to take him to the toilets and return him to his table afterwards. Throughout his time in Mitchell's Laura ensured that the gentleman was made to feel welcome and comfortable. 7. Vortex There were no reported occurrences of vortex damage between September to December 2012. 8. Noise Action Plan The results of the Olympic Air Space monitoring campaign have now been analysed and a report will be presented at the next meeting.

9. Community Southampton Airport Community Panel The airport’s community panel meet three times a year to decide on community projects for charitable support (against strict criteria). The panel includes members from some of the companies at Southampton Airport, The Communities Trust, Eastleigh Borough Council, and Southampton City Council. Some of the projects recently chosen for support include:

2012 2011 2010

Sept 23 8 26 Oct 3 7 3 Nov 3 1 5 Dec 0 2 3 Total 29 18 37

2012 2011 2010

28 13 28 There has been a 115% increase in the number of complaining households compared to 2011. General During the period September to December, we saw a rise in complaints due to ILS upgrade works. 19 complaints in September related to the upgrade works. The Noise and Flight Evaluation Unit will continue to proactively inform local residents of any unusual events (late night movements, ILS outages etc.) by email or telephone where possible. If we remove all ILS related complaints, we would see a 31% decrease in complaints for the period. Location of Complaints 41% of complaints came from the Winchester area and all bar one related to aircraft routing which can be traced back to the ILS works. A total of 89% of complaints came from areas to the North of the airport and a vast majority can be also attributed to the ILS works. Aircraft routing due to the ILS works caused most complaints during the period.
