WEBINAR FOR FOUNDATION DOCTORS - WEDNESDAY 12 NOVEMBER *REMINDER* The careers team will be running an interactive 60 minute webinars for foundation doctors on how to prepare for and deal with the specialty selection process on November 12th at 7pm. Attendance certificates will be provided for attendees who submit a feedback form after the event. Full details and booking forms are available on the STFS website. Bookings can be made up until midnight the day before the webinar. 2. CAREERS COUNTDOWN - *REMINDER* The STFS Careers team have created a careers countdown to help prepare all F2s going through the specialty application process. See: ‘Careers Countdown…3…’. 3. ACADEMIC FOUNDATION PROGRAMME FORMS ON EPORTFOLIO - *REMINDER* F2s completing academic foundation programmes are strongly encouraged to arrange for their academic supervisor (by sending them an eP ticket) to complete the academic supervisor initial meeting, mid-placement meeting and end of placement meeting forms in ePortfolio. 4. STFS FOUNDATION DOCTOR ANNUAL QUESTIONNAIRE 2014/15 We carry out surveys to ensure that we are providing the best possible training experience and we use direct feedback from you to quality manage the foundation programme delivered by our local education providers. Our Annual Questionnaire is due to open on Wednesday 12th November, and will remain open for 2 weeks. We will be emailing you soon with a link to Survey Monkey - please ensure that you complete this important survey as soon as possible. 5. HEKSS SHOWCASE – SATURDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2014 *REMINDER* This is a chance to learn more about the excellent specialty training opportunities, initiatives and support offered in the HEKSS region through the eyes of consultants and trainee doctors in the South East and will feature a talk from bestselling author of Bad Science and Bad Pharma, Ben Goldacre. This event is for doctors of any level and medical students. The event will include presentations, careers advice, interview skills workshops, information stalls and much more. 9. ESSAY COMPETITION FOR FOUNDATION YEAR DOCTORS The Institute of Medical Ethics hosts an annual essay competition for F1 and F2 Doctors. The essay should be in the form of an appropriately anonymised reflective report and should address ethical issues in your experience of clinical practice. Up to five prizes will be awarded worth £300 each. The deadline for submissions is 8 February 2015. For further information click here.

Section B – Information for foundation faculty

11. ETFT – NEW MODULES Our etft.co.uk website has been updated and also has two new modules – one on managing a trainee in difficulty and one on the quality visiting process. It is video or screenshot based and open access (although you need to register to receive a certificate). Other modules suitable for trainer accreditation include those on supervised learning events, leadership, simulation and foundation ARCP.

13. PSYCHIATRY FOUNDATION PROGRAMME EDUCATOR CONFERENCE – FRIDAY 21

NOVEMBER 2014 The first Psychiatry Foundation Programme Educators’ Conference is taking place on Friday 21st November. The conference will be held at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, 21 Prescot Street, London E1 8BB, and will be repeated both morning and afternoon. It is a free event, aimed at Clinical and Educational supervisors of Foundation doctors in Psychiatry placements. For further information and to book a place, please visit the conference webpage.

14. HOW TO SUCCEED AS A JUNIOR DOCTOR - 15 NOVEMBER 2014 The Royal College of Physicians, London, will be holding a one-day workshop for foundation doctors providing a ‘how-to-guide’ for the skills to demonstrate at specialty training interviews. For further information and to register click here.

15. MRCP PART 2 REVISION COURSE – SATURDAY 15 & SUNDAY 16 NOVEMBER 2014 SW London Core Medical Training is running a MRCP Part 2 (Written) revision course at St George’s Hospital, Tooting on 15th and 16th November. 16. CORE SURGERY INTERVIEW COURSE – SATURDAY 3 JANUARY 2015 This is a one-day course focussed on the CST interview. Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis. For further information and to register click here.

17. EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR SURGICAL RESEARCH 50th ANNUAL CONGRESS THE GOLDEN

18. WORLD CONGRESS OF CLINICAL SAFETY – MONDAY 28 – WEDNESDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

2015 The 4th World Congress of Clinical Safety will be held from September 28 to September 30, 2015 at Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. Abstract submissions accepted between 1 February and 31 May 2015. For further information click here
