“The quality of children’s relationships with their teachers in preschool is an important predictor of children’s future social relationships and academic success in school (Peisner-Feinberg et al., 1999).” How children feel is just as important as how they think. Research shows that for children to succeed in school and life, they need an adult they can trust to nurture, protect, guide, and support them. “

In 2011, let’s resolve to build positive relationships with the children we care for!

I will greet every child by name.

I will follow the child’s lead during play.

I will listen to their ideas and stories.

I will provide praise and encouragement.

I will find something in common with each child.

I will acknowledge a child’s effort.

I will play a game with a child.

I will play outside with a child.

I will give hugs, high fives, and thumbs up for accomplishing tasks.

I will read a child’s favorite book in front of the class.

I will give lots of compliments.

I will tell a child that was absent how much he was missed.
