We enjoyed spending the day roaming around the city, shopping and exploring. We had a yummy group dinner in China town and then it was a mad dash to the show. The performance was wonderful and a very valuable experience. Thank you to Miss Cameron for the outstanding trip and all the effort she put in providing us the opportunity to go. Also a big thank you to Mrs Kemmis for coming along with us and making the trip memorable and fun. Year 12 Students Aiming High

USYD Visit: In the last holidays and long weekend, Mrs Lancaster had the privilege

to accompany a great bunch of Year 12 students to the University of Sydney, to

attend HSC Booster lectures. We all stayed at the YHA in Central, some of us even went to the spectacular annual

Sydney lights festival, Vivid. The students also got to have a good look around

Sydney, occasionally getting lost but always finding their way back to their holiday mum! Some tried foods they had

never seen before and the city can be quite daunting for regional kids, but they

all were keen to try something new. Jai Brown, Johnny Hu, Thomas Lancaster, Angie Beshaw, Mel Cockbain, Ellie Lucas

and Emma Essex, accompanied by Sam Johnstone, attended lectures on Extension

History, Ancient History, Advanced English, Maths Extension 1 and 2, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mrs Lancaster was

very impressed with how they represented their school and with the consistent effort

that they are putting into their HSC studies.

Clarence Valley Council HSC Study Night Last Tuesday night, our local library

opened its doors after hours to all HSC students in the Clarence Valley. FREE PIZZA and printing were all on offer, plus

the opportunity to meet with other HSC students from local schools. The library

staff was a little disappointed to see so few students, but SGHS had a majority

with Brayden Robinson, Angie Beshaw, Bersheena Burnett, Keiren Ellem and Thomas Lancaster attending. There will be

another HSC study night in Week 9 of this term, so keep an ear out for more details!

WorldSkills Hairdressing Australia finalist Isabella Di Mattia is off to Melbourne in October for the National

WorldSkills Final in hairdressing.

Through dedication and constant practice, Isabella

qualified for the finals through

success at the regional WorldSkills competition while

studying Hairdressing (TVET)

through Grafton TAFE. She will be competing in the schools

section. “I wanted to enter World Skills to meet other people from other areas and learn

new skills and I certainly have,” said Isabella. “It was really great to be able to

go over and over the skills I’ve learnt at TAFE and perfect them – particularly upstyles, my favourite section."

Year 11 Jerseys

Thanks goes to the SRC for their help in the organisation of

acquiring the Year 11 Jerserys.

Tayah Wyatt Anti-Racism at SGHS

Racism has no place in any school and cannot be tolerated. To help deal with the

issue, all NSW public schools must have an Anti-Racism Contact Officer, or ARCO. Their role is to assist any parents, staff

and students who have complaints regarding racism and to make sure our

complaints handling process is followed appropriately. In our school, Mr Raymond Pobjoy takes on this role from this term.

Complaints of racism can of course still be made to the Principal or any staff member

and should be reported as soon as possible. This is best done by calling the school directly or emailing Ray at

[email protected]. Students may also talk with Mr Pobjoy

in the HSIE staffroom, email him directly or use the Stymie website to

make a confidential notification if preferred https://stymie.com.au/. Racism is a serious issue that can limit everyone’s

potential. Help make sure it does not become a part of our school community.

Free Come and Try BMX & Sign-on day Saturday 23rd July 2016

Two Free coaching and training Sessions to choose from 9.30 am to 11am or 12pm to 1.30pm for new riders to gain basic

BMX is not just for the boys - the number of girls riding and racing BMX bikes is on the increase throughout Australia. The

great thing about BMX as a sport is that the whole family can get involved.

Bring along a good working order bike (Bike size can be from a 16 inch BMX to 26 inch mountain bike or strider balance

bikes for the very young) and safety gear - bike helmet (preferred full face) long

pants and long sleeve shirt, shoes and socks that cover the ankle, gloves (any type will do).

If you do not have some of the safety gear, ask at the canteen on the day as we

do have a limited number of helmets and gloves to loan out. The club will have someone on hand to

checkout your bike and help with making it safe to ride.
