The Beaconhouse School System was visited by the SOS Youth
Boys for the singing finale:
The youth boys of the SOS Children’s Village Multan visited the Beaconhouse School System for
the finale of the singing competition. One of the children from the village also took part in the
finale.
Jinnah Highs School System visited SOS Children’s Village
Multan on Iqbal day:
The children of the Jinnah Highs School System visited the SOS Children’s Village Multan. They
were given a tour of all of the projects and the children gave a combined cash donation to the
village as well.
The younger children of the SOS Children’s Village Multan
visited the Learner’s Castle School Multan:
The younger children of the SOS Children’s Village Multan visited the Learner’s Castle School
Multan. They spent an entire school day there and interacted with the children of that school.
The mothers of the SOS Children’s Village Multan visited the
Cantonment Garden Multan:
A trip was established by Mrs. Saima Faisal for the mothers of the SOS Children’s Village Multan.
This trip was held so that the mothers may feel refreshed and perform their duties better. They
were provided food there as well.
The Burger Station visited the SOS Children’s Village Multan:
The Burger Station visited the SOS Children’s Village Multan and distributed almost 200 burgers
among the children and staff here at the village.
The children of SOS Children’s Village Multan visited Afsaneh &
The Gelato Treat:
The elder children of SOS Children’s Village Multan were taken to Afsaneh for the purchasing of
clothes and the younger children were taken to The Gelato Treat and were given ice cream. The
entire event was held by Mr. Mian Hussain.
Village Committee Visits:
During this month, Mrs. Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh and Mrs. Haniya Shahid visited SOS Children’s
Village Multan and contacted every Committee Member that was behind their due payment and
they also contacted all of the sponsors that had due payments as well with the help of Mr.
Kamran Yousaf. Ms. Kainaat Idrees updated all of the intra records of the children in the SOS
Youth Home Multan. Mr. Ghufran Yousaf wrote the brief histories and observations of the
children of the SOS Youth Home and then sent them to Mrs. Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh for proof
reading; she then created the admission notes as well and uploaded the entire data on the intra
software. During this month, Mrs. Haniya Shahid and Mrs. Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh also checked
the entire budget and made sure that everything was in proper order. Mrs. Ayesha Najeeb, Mrs.
Haniya Shahid and Mrs. Saima Faisal took a visit of their assigned houses at the village and made
sure that everything was functioning properly, they also tried their best to solve any issues that
the house might be facing. During this month, the purchasing of new quilts and their covers as
well as the winter clothes for the girls here at the SOS Children’s Village Multan was made. A trip
was arranged for the mothers of the village at the Cantonment Garden, it was held by Mrs. Saima
Faisal; it was done in order to refresh the minds of the mothers so that they may perform their
tasks better. A meeting with the mothers of the village was held by Mrs. Rameen Anis in which
she discussed the methods of teaching that were being used in the village and on how they can
improve those methods.
Regular Hygiene Checkup of SOS Children:
A regular checkup of children hygiene and health on daily basis in the dispensary of SOS
Children’s Village Multan by the village director, Ms. Salma and the appointed dispenser is
monitoring all the children.

Topic: Oxford Social Studies for Pakistan

Aim of the activity: To enable the teachers of Social Studies to understand & practice
activity based strategies for Social Studies.
Purpose of activity:
On 23rd November, 2019 a workshop for Social Studies teachers was
conducted. It was conducted by Ismat Riaz resource person from Oxford University Press
Multan.
Ms. Ismat Riaz started the workshop with introduction.
Then she introduced “Revised” fourth edition for New Oxford Social Studies for Pakistan.
Then she conducted an activity.
National Anthem was played and after that questions related to National Anthem were asked
like: who has written it? Who has designed its lyrics? In which language it is written? When was
it written? Through this activity she gave the concept of “Brain Stroming”.
Then she shared some salient features of student book.
After that she guided the teachers how to teach ATLAS. She shared possible ATLAS
activities.
Comparing a world map with a globe.
Finding places using the index and how to locate them.
Making a sketch map from a photographic map in an ATLAS.
Describing the general features of a region using a topographic map in an ATLAS.
Using information from statistical tables in an ATLAS.
Then she talked about;
Teaching methodology best suited to Social Studies learning.
She said activity based learning (ABL) is about using the curriculum to take a creative approach
for learning rather than a direct method or one way teaching method. It is;…..
About doing rather than listening
About active engagement rather than mindless copying of words and numbers.
In order to engage the student, use an activity.
Why activity based learning is necessary?
Educational Psychology tells us those children aged 4 – 10 years age group learn best when their
age level and cognitive development is kept in mind to make lessons relevant to their mental and
physical development. Children also need a variety of direct experiences to develop:

Physically
Emotionally
Socially
She also discussed deferent simple activities for History and Geography Learning.
She also explained Blooms Taxonomy of Educational Objectives.

In the last she took feedback from the trainees about workshop.
It was very informative and interesting workshop. All the trainees learned many new, useful,
skills strategies and activities for Social Studies learning.

conducted this informative workshop for them.

Topic: Effective Teaching in Mathematics

Aim of the activity: To aware and guide the teachers of Mathematics about the changes in
curriculum books grade I – VIII and enable them to execute activity
based learning and teaching.
Purpose of activity:
On 30th November, 2019 a workshop for Mathematics teachers was
conducted by Mr. Hamid Rashid (Resource Person from Oxford University Press Multan).
Mr. Hamid Rahsid started the workshop with an activity. He gave a word problem to all the
trainees and asked them to solve it. Through this activity he gave the concept of “Problem
Solving”.
After that he played two short video clips to show that why students dislike Maths teachers?
Then he took suggestions from trainees and guided them about the ways to overcome this
problem.
After the videos, he introduced the new Mathematics curriculum applied from 2020. He said that
the new books will be more colorful, practice sheets have more word problems and answer key
will be given at the end of the books.
After that he conducted another activity to give the concept of ‘A Good Book…..’ He said, “A
good book may have the following features”:

Aim of the activity: To enable the students to show their speaking skills and confidence.
Purpose of activity:
The debate competition is an opportunity for the students to show their
public speaking skills. This event develops a message of friendship and unity among the
participating schools.
Like last eight years, we organized our ninth (9th) Annual Debate Competition on 23rd
November, 2019 in our school premises. This year eight well renowned school of Multan city
took part in this competition. All the schools (who participated) were informed about rules and
regulations and topics 15 days before the competition.
At 10:30 am the debate competition started with the National Anthem. All the participated
students represented their school with their school flags.
After the Anthem, Darood Pak was played with slide of calligraphic Drood Pak.
Hussain Mustafa & Mahnoor Lodhi, the students of Grade XI and X anchored the competition.
They invited our worthy chairperson Mrs. Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh who officially started the
ceremony. She welcomed all judges, chief guests, parents and participants of this Mega
competition. She said “This event is pride for every Multani and ever Pakistani”. Education is the
basic right of every person and we put all the children at same platform. She highlighted SOS
projects and the cause. She acknowledged the outstanding results of our Matriculation class 2019
and the intermediate class 2019. These outstanding pupils make us proud and seem to be an asset
of country. Then Mahnoor Lodhi and Hussain introduced the chief guests and judges.

After that, the competition started. First of all “Group A” delivered their speeches on the topic of
“Every house should have a pet”.
Secondly, “Group B” delivered their debates on the topic “Would learning be more impactful
with textbooks or without textbooks?”
After two groups the students of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Higher Secondary School Multan
Muqaddas and Sana performed a beautiful recital which showed the connection and love
between nature and human beings. All the audience appreciated the performance.
Then Madam Mahnaz invited our honourable Chief Guest Dr. Rana Altaf Ahmad to come on
stage and received his shield of Gratitude and shared his precious views about the event. He
appreciated the performances and arrangements, the most.
After that third “Group C” started their debates on the topic of “Technology is going to save the
world or be the cause of its destruction?”
All the students one by one spoke in favour and against the topic.
Then Madam Mahnaz invited our second Chief Guest Mr. Amir Khattak (DC Multan) to come on
stage and received his shield of Gratitude and shared his precious views about the event.
He said, he is feeling very glad to attend this competition and it’s beyond from his expectations.
He was very much impressed by the excellent performance of the students.
After that “Group D” started their debates. It was a panel style debate on the topic of
“Generations of yester years have brought about the destruction or mother earth. (Combined
school team).
Today’s generation is responsible for the rapid destruction of mother earth. (Adult Team).
In adult team our Executive Committee Members participated and they defended their team very
well.
in the end “Group E” performed their debates in Urdu on the topic of “تبدیلی ائٓی کیا خوب رنگ لائی”
After that the students of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Higher Secondary School Multan presented a
performance on a song “بول کہ لب ازٓاد ہیں”. All the audience highly appreciated the performance of
the students.
Al last the final moments arrived and Madam Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh announced the results
collected from the judges.

All the judges and Chief Guests were honored with a shield of Gratitude. They congratulated the
winner participants.
It was a great event for all the schools who participated through this competition they gained a
lot of confidence and experience and raised the names of their institutes by their excellent
performance.
In the end all the judges and Chief Guests were entertained with refreshment.
