Waste segregation

Separate normal general wastes and infectious waste (wastes

produced by a suspected COVID-19 or confirmed case)

Keep lidded, foot operating dustbins (double bag) in all rooms

Waste collection from a room with a suspected COVID-19 or confirmed case

When 2/3rd of the waste bin is full, remove and tie the bag

properly

Label the bag (Room number/area from waste collected, date

and time)

Spray bleach solution (1ml bleach in 9ml water)

How to transport waste to a designated waste collection site in the resort

Designate a separate vehicle to collect wastes

Keep a lidded bin (labeled as “infectious waste”) to collect wastes

from rooms

Safely transport to the waste storage area in the resort and keep

these wastes separately

How to dispose infectious waste

Option 1: IF incinerator is available in the resort, incinerate all wastes

Option 2: IF Incinerator is not available (recommendation from Ministry of Environment):

Remove lid of an empty oil barrel (standard size) Cover 30 to 40 cm of barrel with sand Put waste on top of sand and burn Burn waste faraway from people

Option 3: IF unable to incinerate or burn:

Keep the infectious waste bags for 72 hrs., preferably in outdoor under sunlight. (in an area not accessible to the guests and staffs

After 72 hours can be disposed as municipal waste with precaution

How to disinfect waste collection bins and vehicle

Clean all the bins daily (with cleaning detergent and water) and

disinfect with bleach solution (1ml bleach in 9ml water) the

dustbin daily and let dry

How to ensure workers safety

Designate trained staffs to handle, collect, transport and dispose

waste

Ensure necessary Personal protective equipment’s (Gown, heavy

duty rubber gloves, face mask, goggles or gumboots) are

provided to the staffs

Train staffs how to put on and remove PPE

Wash hands frequently with soap and water

AS A PREVENTIVE AND PROTECTIVE MEASURE, DISPOSE ALL

INFECTIOUS WASTES IN THE RESPECTIVE RESORT ISLAND

Infectious fabrics

Infectious fabrics include:

Clothes, bed sheets, bed covers and pillowcases used by

patients;

Bed curtains;

Wash with detergent (bleach may be used) in hot water at 60 -

90 °c

Disinfection procedure for Linen and clothing of a suspected COVID -19 or confirmed case

Page 5: SOP on Environmental Management and Infection Control for … · 2020. 3. 22. · in the resort Designate a separate vehicle to collect wastes Keep a lidded bin (labeled as “infectious

Disinfection of transport tools

Designated transport tools should be used specifically for

transporting infectious fabrics

Wash with detergent/soap and water immediately each time

after transporting infectious fabrics

Spray bleach solution (1ml bleach in 9ml water) and wipe after

10 minutes.

Workers safety

Designate trained staffs

Ensure necessary Personal Protective Equipment’s (Mask, Apron,

Heavy duty gloves, goggles, gum boots/closed)

Train staffs how to put on and remove PPE
