Soneto XLIV de William Shakespeare
Traducido al Castellano por Santiago Sevilla
Si mi esencia fuera el pensamiento,
No me impediría cruel distancia:
Espacio no sería impedimento,
Para llegar a ti, hasta tu estancia.
No importaría mi lejano asiento,
Al fin del mundo, por ti en ansia,
Pues mi mente, rauda más que el viento,
Tierra y mar saltaría, en quiromancia.
Mas ¡ay de mí! Idea pura yo no soy,
Para llegar a ti cuando estás lejos;
Mar y tierra, enemigos, son parejos.
El Tiempo, de esperar, me da consejos,
Los elementos me esclavizan. Voy,
Como siempre, a llorarte, el día de hoy.
Sonnet XLIV by William Shakespeare
If the dull substance of my flesh were thought,
Injurious distance should not stop my way,
For then despite of space I would be brought,
From limits far remote, where thou dost stay.
No matter then although my foot did stand
Upon the fardest earth remov’d from thee;
For nimble thought can jump both sea and land,
As soon as think the place where he would be.
But ah! Ehought kills me that I am not thought,
To leap large lengths of miles when thou art gone,
But that so much of earth and water wrought,
I must attend time’s leisure with my moan.
Receiving nought by elements so slow
But heavy tears, badges of either’s woe.
