2007 Equilibria E 4000 Solubility of Nd 3+ in Y3Al5O12. — Nanocrystalline (Y1-xNdx)3Al5O12 (x = 0.15, 0.25, 0.30) powders are synthesized by a sol—gel method in aqueous solution starting from Y2O3 and Nd2O3 dissolved in acetic acid and Al(NO3)3. Eutectic and liquidus tempera- tures are determined by DTA measurements up to 2000 °C. The Y3Al5O12—Nd3Al5O12 section of the Al2O3—Nd2O3—Y2O3 concentration triangle is given. The solubility of Nd 3+ in Y3Al5O12 ranges up to 80 at.%, and is much higher than supposed so far. How- ever, solubility decreases strongly with increasing temperature.
