Blythe Way is now part of a Conservation Area, recognising its historical significance and the harmonious style of the buildings. No 30 is on the west side and a neighbour said long ago
when we first came, ‘you are on the five shilling side’ of Blythe Way.
Although in the mornings the sun streams in through our drawing room
windows our favourite room is the ‘snug’ which adjoins the kitchen and
has French Windows opening onto the patio which is perfect for sitting
out in the evenings. Indeed in the day there are times in the summer
when it is almost too hot to sit in the garden or orchard. We shall miss
the long summer evenings, the range of shrubs and mature trees and the
peace and quiet.

No 30 with its large rooms has been an ideal family home which would often accommodate twelve or fourteen at Christmas and other family times. The large main lawn was
perfect for football, badminton and more recently croquet, whilst the orchard, which backs on to St. Martins School, also provided a haven for hide and seek, as well as fruit in due season.
The Bramleys lasted until the end of November and our grandchildren still enjoy Victoria plum crumble.

Garage
Leading from a door in the kitchen is the integrated garage with its traditional wooden doors and plenty of space for storage.
Gardens
A wonderful feature of this lovely home is the substantial and very private south facing rear gardens. Patio doors leading from the lounge and snug can access the lovely old stone terrace where
heather and wild strawberries congregate in the feature stone work. Clematis and Parthenocissus surround the patio doors, and the dry stone wall rises up to meet the substantial first lawned
area. The depth of mature shrubs and trees creates a secluded garden of Phodedendruns, Acers, Laburnum, Forsythia, Camellia and Viburnum to name just a few. A summer house sits neatly
to one side of the lawn decorated with Honeysuckle in the summer months. On the south side there is a private pathway with neat privet hedges leading up from the main lawn through to the
secret orchard beyond. Rowan and Ash trees intersperse with the Bramleys, Lord Derbys, Victoria Plums, Pear Trees and Blackcurrants, beyond this are the compost boxes tucked away at the
top of the garden.

Solihull is recognised as being one of the most affluent and highly sought-after area’s located within the more southern parts of the West Midlands conurbation.
In November 2013 the uSwitch Quality of Life index named Solihull as the “best Place to Live in the United Kingdom”. Situated some nine miles from the heart of the city of Birmingham the borough of Solihull also boasts being located on the fringe of the popular county of Warwickshire, which enjoys an abundance of beautiful rolling countryside, whilst offering a wealth of historic landmarks such as Warwick Castle and Shakespeare’s birthplace located in Stratford upon Avon.
The town itself offers an excellent range of amenities such as a first class shopping centre which was vastly re-vamped within the last five years and is known as Touchwood, with John Lewis as its cornerstone. The shopping facilities offer all the large high street names and also cater for a large array of eateries, multi screen cinema and various other family entertainment centres such as Tudor Grange swimming pool/leisure centre, park/athletics track, and finally a selection of popular public houses.

We live in a quiet and safe location, a marvellous spot for children and grandchildren. Within a five minutes walk they could be in Brueton Park with its lake, ducks to feed, open spaces and nature reserve . In less than fifteen minutes one can walk into Solihull town centre or, as is the case with some local children, be at Solihull School. By car Junction 5 on the M42 is five minutes away and it is a fifteen minute drive to Birmingham Airport, Train Station and the N.E.C. We live almost at the ‘Heart of England’ and as theatre goers have the R.S.C. in Stratford and many other theatres almost on the doorstep, let alone the world renowned Birmingham Symphony Hall.
In 2000 Cross and Craig, Knowle architects, designed an extension that was above all to be in keeping with the intrinsic style of the house. The former coal house, scullery and utility room became a modern extended kitchen whilst the original kitchen became our much loved ‘snug’ while the old car port and gardener’s shed became the study and hobby room. Many of Blythe Way’s more recent home-owners have, as we did, added extensions to their homes and number 30 has yet much potential for sensitive development.
