Mercury

• 58 million Kilometers form the sun.

• Mercury rotates once ever 58.65 days; it takes it 88 earth days for a year.

• Mercury has no moons

• No evidence of an atmosphere and the temperature is usually 300 to 800 Degrees F.

• Mariner 10, Messenger, and future missions in 2013 called BepiColombo.

The domed habitats on Mercury’s surface are reasons of thermal management.

Venus

• 108,208,980 km from the sun• Rotates ever 243 earth days

and takes it 224 earth days to revolved around the sun once.

• Venus has no moons.• 96% Carbon Dioxide, 3%

nitrogen, 0.1% water Vapor• 726 K is the temperature• Mariner 2, Venera 7, and

Pioneer Venus are some missions

• Venus go backwards when rotating.

Venus is the hottest in our solar system

Page 4: Solar System Project

Earth

• 148,597, 890 km from the sun• It takes it 24 hours to for a

earth day and 365 earth days for a year.

• We have one moon• 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen,

1% argon• Reg temp. 281 K, Max temp.

310 K, Min temp. 260 K• No really big missions since

we live hereThe only planet with the three laws of water

Page 5: Solar System Project

Mars

• 227, 936, 640 km distance from the sun

• Rotates 1.026 earth days and revolves around the sun in 686 earth days

• Has two moons• 95% carbon dioxide, 3%

nitrogen, 1.6% argon• Max temp. 310 K, Min temp.

150 K• Mariner 4, Viking, Mars 2 are

some missions

The planet closes to us

Page 6: Solar System Project

Jupiter

• 778,412,020 km from the sun• Rotates every 10 earth hours

and revolves 12 earth years to go around the sun

• Temperatures are usually around 120 K

• 90% hydrogen, 10% helium, .07% methane

• Pioneer 10, Voyager 1,

Voyager 2 • Has many moons

The largest planet in our solar system

Page 7: Solar System Project

Saturn

• 1,426,725,400 km from the sun

• Rotates every 10 hours • Temperature is usually 88 K• 97% hydrogen, 3%

helium, .05% methane• Has many moons

• Pioneer 11, Voyager 1,

Voyager 2 Has the most rings than the other planets

Page 8: Solar System Project

Uranus

• 2,870,972,200 km from the sun

• Rotates every 18 earth hours but goes backwards and revolves around the sun in 84 earth years

• Temperature usually is around 59 K

• Has many moons• 83% hydrogen, 15% helium,

2% methane• Only the Voyager 2 has made

it to take pictures of it.

Its atmosphere makes it appearance always blue

Page 9: Solar System Project

Neptune

• Distance from the sun is 4,498,252,900 km

• Rotates every 19 earth hours and revolves around the sun every 165 earth years

• Has many moons the biggest one is named triton

• Temperature is usually is 48 K• 74% hydrogen, 25% helium,

15 methane

• Galle and d'Arrest

About the same size as the planet Uranus

Page 10: Solar System Project

Pluto

• 5,913,520,000 km from the sun

• Takes it 6 days to rotate and it goes backwards and it takes it 248 years to revolved around the sun.

Is no longer know as a planet

Asteroids

• Asteroids are small, rocky, irregular bodies orbiting the sun. The first asteroid was discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801. He originally thought he had found a comet, but found that its orbit more closely matched those of planets rather than comets. He named the object Ceres. Ceres is the largest of all known asteroids. It is 933 km in diameter and contains about 25% of the mass of all the asteroids. The asteroids together have a mass less than that of the Moon.

Meteors, Meteorites, Meteoroids

• Meteoroid: A small particle from an asteroid or comet orbiting he Sun.

• Meteor: A meteoroid that is observed as it burns up in the Earth's atmosphere - a shooting star.

• Meteorite: A meteoroid that survives its passage through the Earth's atmosphere and

impacts the Earth's surface.
