QUICK HITTERS¢ Tennessee will play its third and fourth games

against ranked opponents this week with contests vs. #15/16 Arizona and #4/4 Alabama. The Vols are 0-2 against ranked opponents this season but have 185 victories all-time against ranked foes.¢ The combined record of UT’s three opponents at the

Easton Bama Bash is 25-5.¢ The bats have been on fire early as the Vols are tied

for 11th in the country in scoring at 8.18 runs/game and are 21st nationally with a 3.51 team batting average.¢ The Vols have gotten major production from their

freshmen class, especially the trio of Aubrey Leach, Brooke Vines and Abby Lockman. Leach and Vines rank first & second on the team in batting average and the three have combined for 28 starts, 35 hits, 24 runs and 20 RBIs.¢ Leach and senior Lexi Overstreet have reached base

in every game this season.¢ Megan Geer is tied for fourth in the SEC with 14 runs

and is also tied for third in the league with three homers.¢ Shaliyah Geathers ranks 8th in the nation with 0.64

doubles/game. She is coming off a monster week, batting .471 with six runs, five doubles and 10 RBIs. She set a new career high in RBIs twice, first with four against Oklahoma State and again with five against DePaul. ¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly enters this week

with a career record of 942-315-2, just eight wins shy of 950 for her career. ¢ Tennessee is 19-1 all-time in home openers and 14-0

under co-head coaches Ralph & Karen Weekly. The only loss in a home opener came against Kansas on March 10, 2000.¢ Erin Gabriel posted a perfect 3-0 record at the

Michele Smith Invitational last week and is 5-1 on the year. Her 54 strikeouts lead the SEC and rank tied for seventh in the nation.¢ Gabriel was named SEC Pitcher of the Week (2/15)

& College Sports Madness SEC Player of the Week (2/16) after her opening week performances.¢ In Week 1 Gabriel became the first UT pitcher to

post 10-plus strikeouts in their first three appearances of a season since Monica Abbott did it in four straight games to open the 2006 season.¢ For the sixth time in program history, Tennessee

was ranked in the Top 10 of both national preseason polls (2006, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016). The Vols rank No. 8 in the NFCA Preseason Poll and No. 9 in the USA Softball Preseason Poll.

USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll, marking UT’s 13th-straight season opening play as a ranked team.¢ The Vols went 47-17 in 2015 and advanced

to their seventh Women’s College World Series Appearance in program history.¢ UT was picked to finish fifth in the SEC

Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Rainey Gaffin was named to the Preseason All-SEC Team.¢ Senior Rainey Gaffin was named to the USA

Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 “Watch List”¢ Tennessee returns nine players from last

year’s team, including NFCA All-American Rainey Gaffin and SEC All-Freshmen team selections Meghan Gregg & Scarlet McSwain.¢ UT’s 10-member freshmen class was rated

No. 2 in the nation by Full Count Softball and included five players on the Hot 100 list. (Vines, Leach, Rowland, Lockman, Bush)¢ Tennessee returns its three top pitchers from

a year ago and added three freshmen pitchers to the rotation.¢ Tennessee brings back 68 percent of its run

production from last season.¢ The Vols return players who accounted for

64 of their program-record 100 home runs last season. ¢ Three current Vols were named to the U.S. Women’s Elite Team this summer. (Gaffin, Gregg, Vines)¢ Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph & Karen

Weekly enter their 15th year at the helm of Tennessee Softball. They boast a 711-217-2 (.766) record at UT and have led the program to 12 straight NCAA Tournament appearances.¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly enters this

season with a career record of 934-314-2, just 16 wins shy of 950 for her career.

WEEK 1 NOTES (KAJIKAWA CLASSIC)¢ The Vols went 4-2 with two wins over teams

that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament (BYU & Northwestern).¢ Erin Gabriel went 2-1 and posted 10-plus

strikeout in all three of her starts, totaling 34 for the week. She threw a complete-game shutout with 13 Ks in the Vols season-opening 5-0 victory over Creighton.¢ Gabriel also become the first Tennessee

pitcher to strike out 10-plus batter in three straight appearances since Ellen Renfroe accomplished the feat in 2014.¢ Freshmen Aubrey Leach and Brooke Vines

both batted over .430 and combined for 20 hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs and seven steals. In UT’s 15-3 win over BYU, Leach went 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs while Vines went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.¢ UT had four players bat over .400 and four

players drive in at least five runs.¢ The Vols averaged 7.3 runs per game and

9.3 runs per game in their four wins.

WEEK 2 NOTES (MICHELE SMITH INVITATIONAL)¢ The Vols went 4-1 with run-rule victories

over Oklahoma State, Fordham and DePaul.¢ Tennessee improved its all-time record in

Clearwater, Fla., to 21-2.¢ UT averaged 9.2 runs per game in its five

contests and scored 10 or more three times.¢ Shaliyah Geathers had a monster week,

batting .471 with six runs, five doubles and 10 RBIs. She set a new career high in RBIs twice, first with four against Oklahoma State and again with five against DePaul.¢ The Vols hit a season-high three homers in a

16-4 win over DePaul on Sunday.¢ Megan Geer hit a pair of home runs on the

week to increase her team-leading total to three.¢ Rainey Gaffin hit her first two home runs of

the year and also recorded her first two saves of the season.¢ Erin Gabriel posted a perfect 3-0 record for

the week.

UT outscored it opponents by a combined score of 42-7 with three of the four wins coming by way of run rule. The Lady Vols hit .354 as a team last weekend while their pitchers limited opponents to a .181 batting average.¢ UT is ranked No. 11 in the latest USA Today/

NFCA Top 25 Poll and No. 14 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll.¢ With a 5-0 win over Ohio on Feb. 6,

Tennessee improved to 13-7 all-time in season openers and 11-3 under the direction of Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly in the first game of the year.¢ Rainey Gaffin hit a grand slam in Tennessee’s

9-0 (5) rout of Dayton on Feb. 6 ,2015. It was Tennessee’s first grand slam since Madison Shipman drove in four on one swing against South Carolina on March 21, 2014.¢ Taylor Koenig enjoyed an outstanding

opening weekend, hitting .667 (6-for-9) with two homers, two doubles, 10 RBIs, five runs, a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base mark. Rainey Gaffin hit .429 with two homers and seven RBIs.¢ Gretchen Aucoin earned two of UT’s wins,
