This Midterm

Since the very start of socials from our Eminent person

project, we have covered a lot of material and done so

much with it. From the Night of the Notables, blog posts,

and role-playing, there isn’t much we haven’t covered.

This midterm will be all about the Prescribed Learning

Outcomes I met (and didn’t meet), along with the

reflection on my personal learning.

Page 3: Socials Midterm

Successful Learning OutcomesI FEEL THAT I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY LEARNED AND ACHIEVED THE PLO’S A1, A3, AND B2

Page 4: Socials Midterm

Learning Outcome: A1

A1: A1 is all about applying critical thinking skills, and

with the discussions and debates we had in class

along with the Confederation blog post/tweets, I

think I successfully achieved this outcome. In the

debates and roleplaying (tweets, blog post), we had

to defend the position our character was passionate

about and compare the range of points of views that

people had on the Confederation. Another part of

A1 is drawing conclusions about an issue, and with

the debates my partner and I had to come to a

conclusion and see what would be best for our

country at the time. Another part of the PLO A1 is

that we had to compare a range of points of view on

an issue, and with the class discussions indicates that

I achieved this PLO. We talked about what each

population wanted at the time, and I discussed what

Newfoundland wanted during the Confederation,

and I compared that to what other colonies wanted.

Learning Outcome: A3

A3: The learning outcome A3 is about

demonstrating effective written, moral, and

graphic communication skills, individually and

collaboratively. A part of this learning outcome

is communicating your arguments, opinions, and

ideas in written and oral forms, and I think the final

addresses and debates show my proficiency in

this learning outcome. The final addresses allowed

me to share my ideas and opinions, in character

on the confederation. This is the same thing with

the debates, as I argued with another person

about our ideas and opinions on the

confederation. Another part of this PLO is

individually/collaboratively creating presentations

that integrate a variety of media, and both the

final address and debates cover this PLO as well.

We had to plan, revise, and deliver those

presentations, so that shows my proficiency in that

area as well.

Learning Outcome: B2

B2: this learning outcome is about evaluating the impact between aboriginal peoples and European explores and settlers. Even though I wasn't an aboriginal person for the role plays, I was really interested in the interactions between the two races. In my CRAAP testing blog posts I discussed the contributions the aboriginal people made to the development of Canada, and also how the aboriginal people influenced Canadian Identity. I think that blog post along with the debates I participated in (which involved those two achievement indicators) show my knowledge in that area. In the debates I debated with a slave that wanted rights, and that led to talking about Aboriginal people and their rights. I also learned a lot and contributed when we discussed the aboriginal people's role in the confederation in class.

Learning Outcomes That Need

ImprovmentI WOULD LIKE TO LEARN AND DISCOVER MORE ABOUT THE PLO’S B1, B4, AND D3.

Page 8: Socials Midterm

Learning Outcome: B1

The learning outcome B1 is analyzing Canadian society in terms of gender roles, ethnicity, daily life, and the arts. Although we did a small about of comparing the roles and activities of men and women, I would like to learn more about this and also the other indicators. We did talk a bit about the ethnic minorities in discussions, but I don’t feel like I have fully met that indicator.

We will probably talk more about this PLO in the future as the range is from 1815-1914 and we are in the middle of that right now. Hopefully with projects or assignments I will have met this PLO in the future.

Page 9: Socials Midterm

Learning Outcome: B4

To fully meet the PLO B4, you need to

describe the factors that contributed to a

changing national identity. In class

discussions and readings, we did cover the development of Canada’s identity as a

French and English country. This indicator

included events like the Act of Union and

Durham report. Even thought we did cover

this, I still feel like I could learn more about

this PLO. We haven’t really talked about

immigration and Canada yet or events such

as the Boer war, Naval Act, or the Alaskan

Dispute. I don’t know a lot about these

particular events and I would like to learn

more about them in the future.

Page 10: Socials Midterm

Learning Outcome: D3

The PLO D3 is about the development of

British Columbia’s economy, and since we

live in British Columbia, I think this PLO is

really important, but I haven’t really

explored it or learned a lot about it yet.

We haven’t really talked about the

resource based industries that BC had, or

the shift in trade patterns in class yet, but I

know since we live in this province, that we will have discussions about this in class.

These discussions will give me an

opportunity to meet this outcome.

Reflection on Personal Learning WHAT I'M DOING WELL AND WHAT I COULD DO BETTER

Page 12: Socials Midterm

Reflection

WHAT I AM ALREADY DOING WELL

The main thing I feel that I am

doing well is actually

understanding the content and

producing good quality work from

that. If I didn’t understand

anything that was being said, the

quality work I would be producing

would be minimal. I try my best to

pay attention in class so I can

understand the content, and from

that create quality work.

WHAT I COULD WORK ON

I think the main thing that I could

work on is participating more in

class. I will occasionally raise my

hand or contribute to the

discussions, but I could do it more

often. By participating more in this

one aspect I would gain more

knowledge and understanding of

the topics being discussed, but

also gain more confidence for the

future.
