HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA

PRODUCT REPRESENT

PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Page 2: Social groups evaluation

A social group is a group of people who interact with one another and share

similar tastes, interest, characteristics, gender and have this sense of unity.

SOCIAL GROUPS

I wanted my magazine to portray my social groups in a positive way and include my target audience in a way they so they feel welcome and enjoy

reading my magazine product.

My social groups range from male and female genders age range from 25-60 who have an interest in jazz. I know that this age range is a huge difference but many different ages of people love this style of music as it’s a style that

can relate to peoples lives due to meaning songs written, and it makes people escape from their everyday lives likes uni students, family lives, and retired citizens. I didn’t want to portray to much of the seductive, drug use side of

jazz so I wouldn’t advertise a bad influence on people, but actually create jazz as a way of exscaping from reality and express peoples feelings through music.

I wanted the connotations of my work to be portrayed in a postive way and not influence bad behaviour.

Having a price of my £3.50 I thought was suitable as even though my social

economic group is upper class society and can afford much more on buying

products that aren’t necessities however if I want my target audience to be

students or new job working people in late 20’s I want them to be able to still

afford a magazine that they want for pleasure and to get away from their work

life, so I think £3.50 is a reasonable price that my huge age range of audience

can afford.

Placing my price on the back of the magazine was down to I didn’t want to

make my front cover look messy and displace the organisation of my image

and text.

My images represents a particular social group of people being older and

discerning . My model is in her 30’s and has been presented as mature women

with an sophisticated style. With the edit of black and white it lends itself

with interpretation for reader which is in itself a more classy form of media.

Also, many people associate jazz with the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s generation of jazz

and the biggest jazz icons are photographed in black and white images and I

wanted to bring that classic, vintage style to my magazine. Jazz at its’ height by

definition is associated with the early 20th century but by using a model in her

mid 30’s I am attempting to attract those of a readership covering a variety of

age groups.

My text tries to portray my social groups by including interviews of artists

they love and enjoy reading about there idols. Also including, on my double

page spread, the idea of including a download represents people who love to

keep up with latest music downloads. As well as the idea of including gig

tickets and dates shows people enjoy attending these shows and presents a

social society of people who can be with others of similar interests.

I WANTED TO PORTRAY A FAIR SHARE OF SOCIAL GROUPS

BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO I WANT TO ATTRACT PEOPLE OF AN

EXISTING LOVE OF JAZZ BUT ALSO NEW LOVERS OF JAZZ

AND SPREAD THE MUSIC TASTE WIDELY ACROSS SOCIETY.
