The penalty shots are taken right in front of the goal since the opponent was not playing by the

rules and it was a large enough infraction that the rule allows you to try and get a head in the game by scoring a goal. No other person on your team

has to “touch” the ball meaning that this is an indirect kick.

Soccer 101: Rules

1. You can not use your hands while playing the game of soccer. There is only one position (the goalie) that can legally touch the ball.2. When the ball goes out of bounds, the team whose body it went off on, turns the ball over to the opposite team. To put the ball back in play,

they must do a throw in.3. Every goal scored equals one point.4. After a goal, the game will resume in the center of the field as a kick off by the team who did not score.

There a many rules to a soccer game. We are going to learn about a few that will help you in class. The 4 main rules you should remember are:

Soccer 101: Game Time

A full soccer game is typically 90 minuteslong. Depending on the league and age of the players determines the length of quarters

or halves and total playing time.

Team USA

There are 11 players that can be on the field at

a time. This does include the goalie. More players are

on the team roster but may only play when someone on the field is

tired or injured.

There are 4 positions that are played on the soccer field. Read each one

below and it’s description carefully.

Forward: These players play close to the opponents goal and are the primary scorers of the team.Midfielders: These players assist the forwards in scoring goals and assist the backs by preventing goals from being scored.Backs (defenders): Play closest to their own goal and their primary job is to stop goals from being scored with their goalie.Keeper (Goalie): There is only one per team and this player prevents goals from being score in their own net. They can use any part of their body to stop the ball and they wear a different color jersey to distinguish themselves from field players.
