Superintendent’s Message: Classified Employee Appreciaon This month’s At a Glance calls aenon to the efforts of our district’s maintenance and operaons staff. The work of these men and women, much of which occurs behind the scenes, is vitally important to the cleanliness, safety, and security of our schools and grounds. They make certain that the physical environment of our schools allows teachers and support staff to work effecvely with the students; that the physical environment of our schools is conducive to student learning; and, that the physical environment of our schools is neat, orderly, and aracve. By ensuring our facilies and grounds are in good working order, the Maintenance and Operaons Department plays an essenal role in keeping our schools fully operaonal and running smoothly. Thank you! Speaking of appreciaon, March 13-17 is Classified Staff Appreciaon Week. Like maintenance and operaons, classified staff do important work to support teachers, administrators, and fellow staff. Many of our classified staff also work directly with students each day in the classroom, on the playground, in the lunchroom, in school offices and clinics, and on the bus. Taking care of, and educang the nearly 7,000 students who aend our schools each day is no small task. Without the outstanding work of classified staff and the support they provide, we will not be effecve in this regard. Please join me in recognizing all classified staff who work in our schools and across the District. Superintendent’s Message:

Classified Employee Appreciation

This month’s At a Glance calls attention to the efforts of our district’s maintenance and operations staff. The work of these men and women, much of which occurs behind the scenes, is vitally important to the cleanliness, safety, and security of our schools and grounds. They make certain that the physical environment of our schools allows teachers and support staff to work effectively with the students; that the physical environment of our schools is conducive to student learning; and, that the physical environment of our schools is neat, orderly, and attractive.

By ensuring our facilities and grounds are in good working order, the Maintenance and Operations Department plays an essential role in keeping our schools fully operational and running smoothly. Thank you!

Speaking of appreciation, March 13-17 is Classified Staff Appreciation Week. Like maintenance and operations, classified staff do important work to support teachers, administrators, and fellow staff. Many of our classified staff also work directly with students each day in the classroom, on the playground, in the lunchroom, in school offices and clinics, and on the bus.

Taking care of, and educating the nearly 7,000 students who attend our schools each day is no small task. Without the outstanding work of classified staff and the support they provide, we will not be effective in this regard. Please join me in recognizing all classified staff who work in our schools and across the District.

Best regards,

Joel

Spotlight on District Operations

Thanks to the Maintenance and Operations Department, Snoqualmie Valley schools and campuses are kept safe, clean, and well maintained. The behind-the-scene efforts of this hardworking team ensure that learning environments run smoothly. These staff keep the lights on, plow parking lots, de-ice walkways, recycle refuse and empty trash, replenish supplies, deliver packages, make vital repairs, clean and disinfect, manage facility rentals, oversee security, set up for events, mow lawns and much more.

Fun Facts regarding Operations: 35 = Maintenance and operations staff members (includes custodians, grounds

workers, maintenance, warehouse, stadium caretakers, and office staff). 2,217 = Work orders completed last year (2015-16). This year, 1,326 work orders

have been completed so far. 14 = District buildings (11 schools + 3 at District Office) cleaned daily. 80 = Portables maintained throughout the District. 922,000 = Square footage of school buildings and portables maintained (not including

the District Office). That’s equivalent to 614 average-sized homes. 54% = Amount of savings in lighting power achieved over the past two years.

By retro-fitting new lighting throughout the District, consumption went from 66,000 watts of power down to 31,000 watts.

Did you know?

The Operations Office handles ALL school rental requests from community groups, freeing school secretaries from the responsibility of managing external requests. So far this year, 187 different community groups have booked 4,205 events. Last year, the total reached 8,614 events. (Thanks to Michelle Navarre for her work with these community groups.)

The District has been working with Honeywell to develop and pilot a new integrated security solution designed specifically for schools—based on systems used at Boeing and other institutions. To enhance school safety, the new system has been installed in ALL Snoqualmie Valley schools, and will be a part of the new MSHS construction. Operations staff have generated 1000+ access badges, installed 372 new cameras, added 181 external doors with electronic capabilities, and hung 450 new clocks with emergency alert functions, in every classroom!

IMPORTANT:

If a staff badge is lost or stolen,

please notify your school secretary.

Badges can be de-activated,

when needed.
