Our School Vegetable Garden & Community Spirit
Many thanks to Kath and Nathan Chapman, who have tirelessly
volunteered their time in giving our school garden patch a lift
using 100% sustainable building materials. Nathan spent
countless hours building new garden beds over the last months
and they have now been installed. Kath has been a major
driving force and innovator all along the way, helping to maintain the Japanese garden,
supporting the school recycling program, and many other valuable jobs.
Stage one included clearing the original garden, removing a tree for greater sunlight and all the other many odds and ends that needed doing.
Stage two has been the creation and placement of the new beds.
Stage three will be the delivery of soil for the beds and mulch for the ground cover.
Stage four will include the mapping of what goes in the beds,
Stage five is planting of seeds and seedlings.
Stage six will develop processes for watering, student and community participation.
Our garden is a work in progress and we thank all of the people involved with this journey.

Carly Ryan Foundation Presentation Central Idea: Digital technologies are shaping our future
Our Year 6/7 students are inquiring in to how ‘digital
technologies are shaping our future’, and the implications
of the rise of technology on people, the economy, and
the environment.
On Tuesday, upper primary students attended a workshop
presented by The Carly Ryan Foundation. The rate at
which digital and internet-enabled technologies change is
staggering; young people must be educated about all
aspects of being a responsible digital citizen. Some of the
topics that were covered include online safety, healthy relationships and privacy in an
online world; all designed to keep young people safe.
“We learned a lot about being safe online, and we are all now aware of security on social
media, and not giving away any personal information while using these programs. Overall it
was very informative and an interesting experience.” Hannah A, Year 6
Site Improvement Plan Goal: To develop effective writers
What's happening in Year 6 & 7? WritersSA Writing Workshop
In the corridor which leads past the offices of our Principal
and Deputy are honour boards containing a great deal of
information about our school’s history. Allen George
Francis is the first name on this board.
In Mr Francis’ honour, an annual prize is awarded to
encourage and develop children’s writing skills at Rose
Park Primary School. This prize, the Allen George Francis
Medal (AGF), is awarded to one Year 6 and one Year 7
student at the end of the school year.
To support students in producing their best possible narrative creation, and aligning with our
school’s Site Improvement Plan, WritersSA visited each of our five Year 6 and Year 7 classes
to deliver a two-hour writing workshop. During the workshop, students developed their
understanding of the essential elements that comprise an effective and engaging narrative.
WritersSA experts have agreed to adjudicate the students’ work, and award the final prizes
in week 9. We look forward to reading the students’ stories.
“I enjoyed the workshop. Throughout the Writers SA workshop, I learnt many new skills and
new various planning and organising skills.” Archie B, Year 6
Reception—Year 2 Swimming
This week, all children in Reception – Year 2 have
been involved in swimming at Burnside Swimming
Pool. Students thoroughly enjoyed their participation
as part of the Health and Physical Education
curriculum. We thank the swimming instructors, parent
volunteers and teachers for supporting our students
throughout the week. Although the sun was not
always shining, everyone had a blast!
Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits Musical
The Year 4/5 Musical was a great learning
experience for all of us. We learnt to work together
as a team, cooperate and learn the importance of
not arguing about every little thing. If we argued, the
whole musical would fall apart at the seams. Some
people, at first, did not like their parts or costumes,
but as we fell into a routine, we became more
comfortable with our parts, and more confident with
our lines. We all worked together really well and after
our performances on Tuesday and Wednesday
nights in Week 3, we all received a lot of really great
feedback and compliments on how well we all worked together, and our ability to prompt
others when they forgot their cue or line. In all, the whole musical was a huge success and an
amazing learning experience as well as being a lot of fun!

Premier’s Be Active Challenge
This year more than 31,500 students completed the 2019
Premier’s be active Challenge. Our school community was
selected as one of the Top 50 highest achieving schools in
South Australia. To celebrate this special effort, our school
has been invited to attend the Premier’s be active
Challenge reception, where a presentation will be made
to two of our student representatives. We thank our
Physical Education teachers, Mandy Raymond and Anna Nichol for coordinating this
opportunity for students.
