Collegiate Academy Collegiate Academy Associate Degree Program - Lakeview Centennial High School's Collegiate Academy works in conjunction with the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) to provide qualified applicants a unique academic experience. The program is designed to satisfy credit requirements for high school graduation while the student also earns an Associate of Science degree (63 hours) from DCCCD. Through this opportunity only offered at Lakeview Centennial High School, the Academy features a college curriculum in the structure of the high school environment, which allows students to continue to participate in extracurricular activities while they achieve both diplomas. Collegiate Academy students must enter the program their 9th or 10th grade year. In addition to scoring above 70% in both Math and Reading on their most recent achievement test, students must pass the TS! assessment which is administered after acceptance to the Collegiate program.
Classical Path Dance — Students will mainly study three different genres of dance: Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary in the Classical Dance Magnet Program. There are four levels and each student will have a placement workshop to determine which level they will need to be placed in. In addition to those three genres of dance, students will also have the opportunity to study Hip-Hop, African, and learn how to create their own choreography. The Dance Magnet Program also has their own award winning dance company called LCDC, which is comprised of the most talented dancers in the Dance Magnet Program. Emphasis is placed on performance, technique, and dance
related careers.
Gymnastics - Students will participate in competitive meets on either the Varsity or JV teams. Students meet off campus and transportation is provided. Gymnastics is offered from the beginning intermediate to advanced levels.
Advanced Latin - Allows students to study original passages from Roman authors and prepare for AP in Latin. Students may elect to take the Virgil or Catullus Horace Exam or both for 6-18 hours of college credit.
Piano - Piano classes are offered to beginning students and also to those with experience. Basic piano skills are taught to the beginning students, with enrichment opportunities for the beginning and the advancing students. Students with private instructors may also take the piano magnet program to incorporate practice time and ensemble playing during the school day. Music theory, history and composition are also taught in the piano program.
Art, Band, Choir, and Theater Arts are also offered at Lakeview Centennial College and Career Magnet. As a continuation of the Classical Center at Brandenburg, our students participate in all classical programs.
Career Path Future Teacher Internship Students in this program will plan and direct individualized and group activities, prepare instructional
materials, assist with record keeping, make physical arrangements, and complete other responsibilities of a classroom teacher. Students will be involved in observations and direct student instruction. Students will experience a full range of education related career roles, grade levels, subject areas, and ability groups.
Law and Criminal Justice - This specialized course of study is targeted to students considering a career in the legal field. Students choose from two strands — Pre-Law or Protective Services. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the many areas of specialization within the legal community. • The Pre-Law Strand is for students wanting to explore careers in the courts and government fields: lawyers, paralegals, legal
secretaries, court reporters, politics, government operations and foreign affairs. Students have the opportunity to earn an associate degree in Paralegal Studies.
• The Protective Services Strand is for students who are interested in careers in law enforcement (federal, state or local level), special services (such as the CIA), forensics (medical examiner, crime scene investigators) and corrections (correctional officer, probation officer, prison or jail warden).
School of Business - Business and Marketing - The LCHS School of Business is designed to capitalize on the trend toward a global market economy in the fields of Finance, Accounting, and Marketing. In addition students will be enriched through job shadowing, mentorships, and internships in students' career interests. • The Marketing and Entrepreneurship program is designed to prepare students for employment in various sales, customer service,
advertising/ promotion, and first-line supervisory positions within wholesale, retail, and service establishments. Students are also prepared to perform marketing functions and tasks as they relate to selling and retailing. Our Entrepreneurship students learn first hand what it is like to start a real business. All Marketing students get involved in DECA, a Career and Technical Education Student Organization where students learn leadership, personal development, and career exploration skills.
• The Finance strand offers classes in Accounting, Banking, Financial Analysis, and Statistics and Risk Management. • The Business Management and Administration program offers Business Computer classes, along with the opportunity for
certification in Microsoft Office and dual credit that can be applied to the Business Office Support Systems Associate Degree.
Television Production and Broadcasting The Television Production Magnet is housed in the same facility as GRS-TV, and is designed to be a hands-on working laboratory for the student. The facility has a fully equipped production studio, and a broadcast quality control room where students work in a real-world studio environment. Students also work with a full range of field equipment, including field cameras, lighting and audio gear.
