DESCRIPTION
A very user friendly tutorial, step by step guide on the basics followed by adding dimensions to your projectTRANSCRIPT
Google Sketchup 7
Part 2
This is an example of a sketchup drawing, produced in a short time using the tutorial features
This is the sketchup version of the Model house project
Lets go one step further and apply dimensions to our drawing
This allows us to recreate an actual structure, getting a feel for it’s size and proportion in a 3D aspect
Open Google Sketchup 7 and choose the Architectural Metric template
Pick pencil command and draw your first line.Start your line in the right direction (coloured Red)Once it turns red, type in your linier dimension and hit return or enter
Now click on the corner node so that it turns green and position your line so that it turns green
This tell the user that the green line will be at 90 degrees to the first line in a plan view.Again you can type in your dimension and hit return
7
Continue with the parallel line to the first being the same dimensions and on the red axis
7
Now complete the base of the house with you last line in green.
The shape will now turn blue and can now be extruded to form your concrete base for the house
7
Pick the Push/Pull command and start to pull the base upwards using your mouse.
7
Now let go of the mouse and type 150 and hit return
7
Now choose the orbit tool and rotate the floor so that you get an plan view
7
Now choose the offset tool and hold you mouse over the left hand edge until it gives you a small red dot and says ON EDGE
7
Pull the red dot towards the centre of the shape until you see a new rectangle. Now let go of the mouse and type in the thickness of your wall and hit return
7
Say 100 which would represent 100mm for the thickness of the outer skin of brickwork
7
Now repeat this exercise to show a cavity between the two skins or walls: Say 75mm
7
Once you have your wall thicknesses in place then you can extrude them upwards with the push/ pull command
7
Once you walls are visible, then you can add a rendered design to them such as blockwork or brickwork
7
Pick the paint bucket tool and select the BRICK and CLADDING command
7
Now select you material and simply click on the surface to be rendered
7
These techniques need to be practiced and honed until you are competent and can repeat the commands and apply them to the remainder of the ground floor design
7
Once you have mastered the basics of 3D sketchup 7 you will be given a copy of this drawing
7
You can now decide how much detail you wish to add You will be given a set of construction drawings
7
You could;•Plan out the Kitchen layout•Design the stairs using the given rise and going•Add the first floor or upper floor joists

The level of complexity is really up to yourself but you must keep your construction in line with current building practices and regulations
If you wanted to take this to another level and For a real challenge, you could re create your own home or public building and apply to Google to insert it within Google earth
Google will then check out your creation making sure that it is dimensionally accurate and then add it to a medium that is viewed by global audience
