Move, rotate, or scale a selected areaThese tools, found in the Transform Layer puck, help to save time by reducingerasing and redrawing time. If you find a section that needs to be movedfurther away, instead of erasing and redrawing it in the correct position, youcan use the Move tool. Rotate is useful for changing the angle of whatever isselected. And, if you have ever sketched something, loved the way it looked, then realized it wasn’t to scale, try the Scale and Non-proportional Scale tools.

Use layers

About layersKeep your work in layers to simplify changes and explore variations.

What are layers?

Layers let you mark up an image without modifying the image itself, or anyother layers. Use multiple layers for drawing complex sketches or to testvariations in a design.

Hide and show a layerSometimes, you want to see different variations of an idea, changing a color, adding a logo, placing something else in the scene, or removing an element.Hiding and showing layers allows you this flexibility, making it possible to seeonly what you want to see.

Hiding a layer

1 Flick toward this icon to open the Layers window.

2 In the Layers window, click the layer you want to hide.

Wacom tablet troubleshootingImportant information for Wacom tablet users.

Installing the latest drivers

If your Wacom device seems to work when you first plug it in, but youexperience erratic behavior (for example, problems with stylus pressure orwith drifting or offset of the brush stroke), you need the latest tablet driver.

NOTE If you switch from serial to USB devices, try uninstalling the tablet driverand reinstalling it.

For the latest Wacom drivers, go to the Support area of http://www.wacom.com.Install a tablet driver only after you have plugged in the Wacom device, uninstalled the previous driver, and restarted.

NOTE For PC users, do not install Wacom drivers on a Tablet PC. Only install thosedrivers provided by your Tablet PC manufacturer.

Using default tip pressure feel

If you find that brush strokes change abruptly from too light to too dark asyou vary the amount of pressure you apply to your stylus:

1 For PC users, display the Wacom Tablet Properties window. Access thiswindow from Start > Settings > Control Panel > Wacom tablet.

For Mac users, find the installed Wacom drivers and double-clicking theWacom Tablet icon to access this window.

2 To customized settings for other applications, add Autodesk SketchBookPro to the list of applications with customized tool settings, which appliesthe changes only to it.

3 Move the Tip Pressure Feel slider to half-way between Soft and Hard.

The shape of the pressure curve in the More Options display must be adiagonal line. It takes this shape by default when you move the TipPressure Feel slider to the middle.

NOTE For information about using SketchBook with Wacom tablets, see thesection to follow, Stylus responsiveness on page 72.

Stylus responsiveness

Adjusting system stylus responsiveness

Styli (pens) for various systems each respond differently to the pressure youapply. If you dislike the feel of your current stylus, use the followinginstructions.

NOTE This setting affects brushstrokes for all pressure-sensitive brushes.

1 Select a pressure-sensitive brush, such as the pencil.

NOTE You cannot adjust stylus responsiveness, unless the current brush ispressure-sensitive.

2 Select Edit > Pen Responsiveness.

The Pen Responsiveness window appears.

3 Move the slider to the right to increase the responsiveness of the stylus.

For PC

For Mac

As you move toward the Less end of the scale, the feel of the stylusbecomes softer. You do not have to press hard to get dark and thickstrokes.

As you move toward the More end of the scale, the feel of the stylusbecomes harder. Press hard to get dark and thick strokes.

72 | Chapter 7 Adjust system and program settings

Page 76: Sketch Book

4 Test your stylus on the canvas. Experiment with different types of brushes.

NOTE The Pen Responsiveness window stays up while you test.

5 Keep testing with different responsiveness values until the marks on thescreen look and feel right.

With heavy pressure, the markers and other heavier brushes tend to makedark, thick strokes. With light pressure, the pencils tend to make light, but visible strokes.

NOTE You may need to adjust the pen responsiveness each time you use adifferent tablet or stylus.

NOTE Brushstrokes can change abruptly from too light to too dark as you varythe stylus pressure. Setting the tip pressure feel to its default value corrects theabrupt changes. For details, see Wacom tablet troubleshooting on page 71.

Adjusting Tablet PC settings

For PC users, optimize your workflow by changing Tablet PC settings.

NOTE The following settings are for the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Editionoperating system running on Tablet PCs. They do not apply to other operatingsystems.

NOTE Do not install Wacom drivers on your Tablet PC. Only use drivers providedby your Tablet PC manufacturer.

Using primary landscape orientation

For best performance, in the Tablet and Pen Settings window, change thecontrols for the primary landscape orientation.

1 On your system toolbar, click this icon.

2 In the menu that appears, select Properties.
