DM 7/18/19 1 Career Opportunity Recycling/Zero Waste Director San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School San Jose, CA POSITION TITLE Recycling/Zero Waste Director DEPARTMENT Recycling/Zero Waste REPORTS TO Deputy Director of Operations FLSA STATUS Full-time/exempt CLOSING Open until filled Based on a nationally recognized model for education and training young adults (18 – 27 years of age), the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC) is seeking a Recycling/Zero Waste to lead its recycling/zero waste social enterprise in San Jose, CA. Position Summary The Recycling/Zero Waste Director is responsible for managing all aspects of San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC) recycling social enterprise which involves job training, revenue generation and achievement of environmental goals. The Director is also responsible for development and implementation of projects through government grants and customer contracts, while professionally managing all aspects of a comprehensive recycling program and job training program. The Recycling Director is responsible for maintaining the professionalism of the program and for expanding the program into new markets. Social Enterprise Management Manages the overall operations of the recycling social enterprise to achieve the triple bottom line goals: financial, social and environmental. Plans and implements commercial collections program. Negotiates contracts for commercial recycling collections. Assures high level of professionalism and customer service. Coordinates all billing and contracts with Accounting & Finance Department. Negotiates sales of all recyclable materials. Determines the cost, potential funding, feasibility, and appropriateness of projects and programs. Assures compliance with all state and local health, safety, work and facilities requirements. Oversees development and implementation of Recycle iQ (SJCC’s proprietary recycling/zero waste business intelligence system). Grants Management Manages CalRecycle annual grant including grant proposal submissions, record keeping and reporting. Develops recycling programs that comply with CalRecycle funding guidelines, currently focused on beverage containers, waste oil, used tires and e-waste. Identifies markets for existing and new recycling streams. Assists Development Department in providing information for other recycling and training grants. Develops and maintains relationships with state and local government agencies, recycling organizations and community agencies. Evaluates programs, tracks and documents results. Monitors and modifies programs to ensure they are completed within approved budgets. Prepares written evaluations on program accomplishments as required by the funding source. Certification and Training Program Develop program standards and implement training and certification programs that prepare corpsmember-interns for workforce integration. Provide coordination with SJCC career, college and case management counselors to assure corpsmembers have access to all services available.

Staffing and Supervision • Interviews, hires, and trains employees. • Plans, assigns, and directs work. • Conducts yearly performance evaluations and monitors professional development. • Manages and supervises seven staff. • Oversees 20-30 corpsmembers (trainees). Budget and Administrative • Develops and monitors program budgets and modifies work projects and budgets as appropriate. • Serves as member of SJCC Management Team. • Provides program updates to the Board of Directors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university. • Five years related experience and /or training in recycling/zero waste management programs. • Three years of program management experience involving training young adults (preferred). • Knowledge of recycling policies, laws and requirements. • California Class C Drivers License and clean driving record. • Public and/or private grant development. • Business and/or contract development. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Must pass state and federal criminal background checks. • Commitment to environmental stewardship and working with urban youth.
