EMPOWERMENT SHAREHOLDING AND MANAGEMENT

We entered into an empowerment deal with Shalamuka Capital (Pty) Ltd whereby they have acquired 26% of DLM and we have also empowered three of our black employees who now each own 1% of DLM. Total black shareholding at DLM is 29%.

Over 30% of DLM's Top Management is black.

We have a mentoring programme in place in order to fast track the progress of black employees and to ensure that our people are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge before they are promoted into senior managerial positions.

Successes to date include:

Our Technical Manager joined as a senior technician. He gained experience in our Projects Division before being promoted to his current position. He has also joined the Executive Committee of DLM.

Our Stores Manager joined DLM as Assistant Stores Manager. Following a number of years of mentoring and coaching, he has been promoted to his current position and serves on the Executive Committee.

The Manager of our Kwazulu Natal Service Division joined us as a technician. Through training and experience he gained the necessary knowledge and was promoted to the position of Service Manager.

A notable success is the Workshop Manager of our steam and safety and reducing valve section in Johannesburg. He was employed as a driver, joined the workshop staff, was trained and then promoted to Assistant Workshop Manager, was transferred to internal sales in order to gain sales experience and was then promoted to his present position.

Our Stores Administration Clerk started as a tea lady and joined our ABET programme, after successfully completing the Literacy and Numeracy modules of ABET she was promoted to the position of Stores Administration Clerk. She has since successfully completed the ABET NQF1 and has enrolled for Basic Computer Skills Programme; Fire Fighting and First Aid training.

Others include our Receptionist being promoted to an Office Administration position after completing the Office Administration course at Rosebank College, and a temporary Office Administrator joining permanent staff and being trained as a Terminal Management Systems Support Technician.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENTDLM has a Skills Development Committee which is representative of all race and gender groups and is headed up by a black female Skills Development Facilitator. A formal Skills Development Plan has been drawn up and is being adhered to.

An ongoing in-house training programme for all levels of permanent staff has been implemented.

PREFERENTIAL PROCUREMENTDLM is an import trading company and products are sourced from overseas suppliers where there is no equal local alternative.For all other goods and services that can be sourced locally, DLM has committed itself to make use of BEE companies wherever possible. Local BEE suppliers are identified and appointed as preferential suppliers and also benefit from our Enterprise Development programme of settling accounts early.

ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENTOur aim is to locate small black owned companies or develop new ones and then to assist them to become self-sufficient and profitable enterprises capable of offering employment opportunities to others, thereby creating ever expanding base of job providers and reducing unemployment in South Africa.

Sithobisizwe is a wholly black women owned company. DLM has appointed Sithobisizwe as a preferred supplier and pays for orders on the day of delivery to assist with cash flow. Sithobisizwe is also assisted with effective marketing of the business through advertising on the Shanduka's Blackpages.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTWe are firm believers in the parable that “it is better to teach a man to fish rather than to give him a fish”. Various self help projects such as one to give tools, instruction and training in how to make saleable products are constantly sought, evaluated and supported if they meet our criteria.

DLM has "adopted" a number of child development and disabled persons centres where food supplies and groceries are delivered on a monthly basis. Further, our staff members are encouraged to donate clothing, toys and educational items which are delivered along with the groceries.

We have prioritised education and skills development to ensure that through bursaries previously disadvantaged youth have the opportunity to participate in the economy. We are very proud of the academic achievements of some of our bursary recipients who achieved “ the Best Accounting student at Boston college” and the “ Student of the Year at Netcare Education”

A number of our stores employees, all from previously disadvantaged groups completed the Basic English, Mathematics and Computer Skills course ( ABET).

Our Work Experience Program has seen graduates gain work experience in various departments including Finance and Admin, Technical and Sales divisions. Recently, we partnered with the WRSeta to provide work experience to graduates who gained work experience while their final year study loan was converted into a bursary. Mechanical Engineering students are offered the opportunity to gain work experience in our Workshop while completing the practical requirements of their qualifications. Our employees benefit from the Financial Wellness program where they are offered Financial Literacy Training and Development of Personal Financial plans

Manufactured by Corflex Engineering (Pty) Ltd, these valves are designed for brasive and corrosive slurry applications for high and low pressures. AllCorflex pinch valves are flanged.

Corflex “NIPPIT” valves (max 10 bar working pressure) are available in SGI,Aluminium or Stainless Steel bodies.

Sleeves are manufactured to ISO 9002 Standards and have a 3:1 safetyfactor.

Various type actuators can be fitted depending on working pressures and clients’ specific requirements.
