How To Choose A Best Lawyer

The most important decision in your divorce is choosing the right lawyer. Firstly, your lawyer should be a Specialist in Matrimonial law; “your lawyer must have considerable experience in handling divorce cases”.

An ideal family lawyer will let you have active participation in discussions about your case and guide you through the proceedings.

There are many generalist lawyers who offer and advertise cheap Legal Services online to entice clients to use their services, but beware, choose with caution. You only receive what you pay for. There is no such thing as a flat fee divorce unless you are absolutely sure that your partner will consent to divorce in your terms. You can’t expect more than you bargain for with a flat fee advertisement. Click for more information.

Divorce Process

Divorce in Singapore is a 2-step process, being either contested or uncontested.

In the first stage, Courts will deal with the termination of the marriage itself. Here, the Court will decide whether the marriage should be dissolved. At the end of this stage, if successful, parties will receive an Interim Judgement.

In the second stage, the Court will deal with the Ancillary matters. These include division of matrimonial assets, dealing with custody of the children and maintenance of the wife and children. At the end of this stage, parties will receive a Final Judgement.
