Nature High Program Description

• Students learn about natural resource careers through one week of structured lessons, hands-on activities, field trips, and demonstrations from natural resource professionals.

• Students tour Snow College campus and find out what college life is all about.

• Students will become aware of qualifications needed for positions with natural resource management agencies.

• Students will also find out how to apply for federal jobs they may qualify for now!

Program Philosophy

The goal of the camp is to expose students to the activities of natural resource agencies in hopes of encouraging them to commit themselves to academic study and careers in science, natural resource management, and agriculture.

Program Objectives

1. Identify students with serious interests in careers in math, science, natural resource management, and agriculture.

2. Familiarize students with college requirements to pursue a career in natural resources.

3. Help students gain a greater awareness of career opportunities with natural resource management and agriculture.

4. Acquaint students with professionals in the fields of natural resources.

5. Provide information about college admissions procedures, financial aid, academic programs, and support services for diverse student populations at Snow College.

Benefits of Nature High Camp

Provide options for kids to work in areas they didn’t know existed.

It gives them a greater appreciation for public lands.

Land Management Resources

Campers develop a Resource Management Plan based on what they learn from the professionals in range, soils, forestry, biology, and hydrology.

They learn how to use information from different disciplines while creating an overall project, including points of views from environmentalists, farmer/ranchers, recreationists, and local governments.

- Students MUST be picked up no later than 9:45 am

Who May Apply: Utah high school students who have a serious interest in the environment and are undecided on career goal.

Qualifications

Student Requirements: Selected students are required to follow camp rules, structured schedules, and participate in all activities.

Cost to Students

$50.00!Thirty Students a full week in the natural setting of Ephraim Canyon learning about natural resources, public land management, meeting new friends and having a great time.

Transportation: Students provide their own.

This was eye opening. Even when you understand how everything is connected it is eye opening to physically illustrate it!

That was a good starting point. Learning that everyone depends on everyone.

This camp was "gnarly" all around. I would love to come back next year. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this on. I felt as if I learned something. Everything that was planned was very interesting and fun. This camp was good because we learned by hands on activities.

I didn’t know quite what to expect but this camp blew away any preconceived notions I may have had. Everyone was so friendly and awesome. Spending time with friends and doing activities to learn is one of the neatest thingsyou can do. I had sucha blast. Great friends, great folks, great food! It was a very fun week.
