I am inspired by the truth that, “to God belongs the glory and power,” and yet, God chooses to share that power with us. When we speak, we speak the very words of God. When we serve, we serve not with our power, but with God’s. It’s an awesome idea that when we use our gifts, talents and passions… the things that come natural to us and that we love… that God’s very power can move through us to touch others! And of course, this happens when we use our gifts to love and serve. I believe we were reminded of this same truth a couple of Sundays ago with our Back to School/Fall Blessing, as we heard the words of Psalm 121, “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore,” and we invited parents and other caregivers to make the sign of the cross on their child’s foreheads, saying these words: “Jesus is with you wherever you go.” What a powerful word of blessing and promise! We were reminded that students are Jesus’ hands and feet at school. They are there on the bus, on the playground, in the cafeteria and in small work groups in their class. Nei- ther the pastor, their parents, nor anybody else at church can be there. So Jesus is de- pending on them to stand up for justice and to watch for people who need loving care. In October, we will have the opportunity to study and be renewed as we think about stewardship and how we all can use our gifts, talents and our very lives in the ministry that God is unfolding right in our midst. I look forward to spending this time together, and I hope everyone can come out and take part. I do pray that we all will see this fall as a time that we can pause and consider where we might find our own place in the midst of all that God is doing at Sinai, in our community, and throughout the world. And, I hope that we will believe that God intends to use each of us and the gifts we have been given to touch others’ lives. Peace,

Messenger Pastor Al’s Message

“Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To God belongs the glory and the power forever and ever.” (1 Peter 4:8-11)

On Rally Sunday, September 10th, we will install our Sunday School teachers and those

involved in our faith formation ministries at Sinai. The verses above will be read to en-courage these members. In reality though, it is meant to encourage all of us to believe that not only is God at work in our midst, but that God is working through each of us in unique ways.

Nei-ther the pastor, their parents, nor anybody else at church can be there. So Jesus is de-pending on them to stand up for justice and to watch for people who need loving care.

Peace,

Adult Forum will resume on Rally Day, September 10th! Fellowship

& Forums-- A sign up to provide treats and/or make coffee for fellow-ship is posted on the North bulletin board. Please join us in the fellowship hall each Sunday after first service as a new season of adult forums begin. Coffee and snacks are available as we pursue various topics including Bible studies, community groups and Synod topics. It is a casual atmosphere where little ones are welcome. Sunday, September 10—Lisa Kramme… Food for a Week What is hunger? What is food insecurity? This week we'll discuss those terms and have an opportunity to learn what it might be like to live with the challenges that people who are food insecure face on a daily basis. Come join us as we focus on Food for a Week through an interactive simulation. We hope you are able to be part of both this one and the 24th! Sunday, September 17—Care Corps, Morgan from Fremont’s Homeless shelter and family services “Who is homeless in Fremont? Is it even a problem? Why can’t people just get a job? These are the questions Care Corps will address during the adult forum on September 17th. Focusing on the issue of poverty and how that relates to homelessness will be the main topic addressed during this time. Join us for this opportunity to interact with a local nonprofit serving the most vulnerable in our community!” Sunday, September 24—Lisa Kramme… Food for a Week-Part 2 What is it like to feed a family of four for a week on a budget of $45 or a family of two retirees for a week on a budget of $15? We will explore what it takes to meet the caloric needs of families who are food insecure, the challenges that are faced and how we can be of support. You don't have to have been at September 10's forum to take part in this one, but we hope you are able to be part of both!

Sinai has financially supported our Sinai seminari-ans, and it is time for a new school year to begin. A special seminary fund continues for Halcyon Bjornstad. Contributions may be designated for Halcyon as she begins her last year in seminary. Note Halcyon-Seminary in the memo line of your check. Thanks so much for your support!

Welcome Eva Jose-phine Knudsen, daugh-ter of John and Sara Knudsen as a child of God on her baptism September 3. Her spon-

sors are Cory and Venetia Reimnitz. Eva’s baptismal gown has been used for three generations in her dad’s family. The first person to be baptized in the gown was her grandfather in 1959. The gown was made from parachute material that was recov-ered from a Royal Airforce drop to the Danish underground during World War II, and the material was made into a gown by Eva’s great-great-grandmother in Denmark. Eva is the 9

th child to be baptized in the gown in

the United States. Every time some-one is baptized in the gown, their name and baptismal date is embroidered on it. Eva’s name will be the 22

nd name added to the list!

We wel-come

our neighbors from Midland on their Homecoming weekend. Musical selections from the arts students will be part of the 10:30am worship on Sunday, September 17th. Give them a great Sinai welcome!
