The last leg of any journey often seems the longest. Now that

we are in the final phases of our renovation I want to thank you

again for your patience and support. When the French Institute

Alliance Française returns to 22 East 60th Street in January 2006,

I know that you will be delighted with the innovative and inviting

new space.

We are pleased with our exciting fall season and I cordially invite

you to join me on Monday, September 19, from 6-8pm in Tinker

Auditorium for a preview presented by Cécile Peyronnet, our new

Vice President of Cultural Affairs. I will also give you an update

on the renovations, and a reception will follow. Please call

646-388-6681 to reserve by September 15th.

The French Institute Alliance Française is proud to participate in

Act French: A Season of New Theater from France. This is the first

large-scale French theater festival in the U.S. in which many of

France’s most exceptional theater artists and playwrights will be

presented on New York stages. In this calendar you will find

details on our Act French presentations, as well as our expanded

A La Carte series, our popular CinémaTuesdays—featuring a

series of Gerard Depardieu films—and so much more . . .

A one-woman show, based on Fabrice Rozié’s play Transatlantic Liaison

With Marie-France PisierDirected by Sandrine Dumas

Simone de Beauvoir’s romantic liaison withAmerican novelist Nelson Algren started in 1947and lasted three years, but they would keep intouch many years more. They wrote to eachother constantly, as if that would reduce theduration of absence.

Through the voice of French New Wave iconMarie-France Pisier and the atmosphere createdby director Sandrine Dumas, this “LiaisonTransatlantique” lives again—its intimacy, itshappiness, its suffering—in the form ofBeauvoir’s letters to Algren.
