Sikshana Foundation
Vol 12 Ed. July 2019
Academic year 2019-20 has kickstarted
with lots of excitement. Team Sikshana
has worked very hard to ensure that all
inputs of Sikshana are well received on-
field and the programs are executed
with perfection. Sikshana’s mentors
stationed across the state of Karnataka
and select locations of Telangana, An-
dhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are
working relentlessly by reaching out to
the schools in every nook and corner of
their allotted locations.
Interventions in Karnataka and Haveli
of Maharashtra continues as usual with
some enhancements while we start new
operations in Yavatmal, Maharashtra and
strengthen our processes further in the
tribal areas of Vizag – Andhra Pradesh
and Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy and Sanga
Reddy areas of Telangana.
Along with implementation we have also
been focusing on strengthening our
monitoring & evaluation processes more
by fine-tuning the in-house MySchool app
as per the requirements from the field.
Sikshana’s Monitoring and Evaluation
Last Month in a Gist
team at Bengaluru Head Office is now
receiving on-field data in real time through
the App which is making the entire pro-
cess much faster
All material inputs have reached the stu-
dents for the current academic year & our
operations team is all geared up now to
drive the utilization of these inputs
throughout the year.
A New Milestone – Over 1000 Teachers Trained and Still Going Strong!!! Sikshana’s Training Team has reached a new milestone by conducting
teacher training sessions where over 1000 teachers have received the
training so far. These trainings are mainly focused on the methodolo-
gy and implementation process of Prerana 2.0 - a model designed to
enhance the much needed 21st Century Skills in all students and help
them with a customized learning achievement path. A team of 6
trainers have been conducting these interactive and activity-based
training sessions across the two districts and will soon reach the tar-
get of training 1430 teachers of the identified Govt. Schools where
the program is being currently implemented. The goal of this initia-
tive is to equip teachers with better program understanding for
smooth implementation of the program going forward.

Sikshana’s Girl Empowerment Pro-
gram also known as SGEP has impact-
ed nearly 300 girls who have received
scholarships to pursue their higher sec-
ondary and college education. These girls
are now all set to take on the world with
confidence and become a source of sup-
port to their respective families. Please

few girls benefitted by this program.
Sikshana is proud to share that SGEP
has been modified further in the current
academic year based on the learnings of
previous years. The program is now com-
pletely focused on holistic development
of the girls enrolled and not just on schol-
arship and academics. We have enrolled
245 new girls in the program from Grade
9th of Government Girls High school,
Hoskote, Karnataka. From Day-1 these
girls would be supported through hands
on weekly coaching by experienced
Empowering Girls in True Sense
coaches for difficult subjects like Physics,
Chemistry, Biology, Math & English and
will also be coached for enhancing their
life-skills through Project Based Learning.
The design of the program is centered
around the idea of empowering young
girls of rural backgrounds through activi-
ties that will enhance their leadership
skills, general awareness, critical thinking,
creativity, communication skills and col-
laboration.
Volunteer and Employee Engagement Activities
Volunteer Engagement conducted by
Sikshana for employees of various cor-
porates around Bengaluru and Pune are
designed to align with Sikshana’s vision
to enhance the quality of education of
students in Government Schools. Sik-
shana’s Volunteer Engagement activities
are always planned to suit the best inter-
est of its beneficiaries – The Students. The
Volunteer Engagement Team of Sik-
shana has conducted many engagement
events at various locations during June
and July in collaboration with our part-
ners such as Dell, Amadeus, Brillio and
Allstate. Students had an opportunity to
explore multi-dimensional learning expe-
riences while the volunteers themselves
had great fun interacting with students
and reliving their own childhood memo-
ries.
We are pleased to share a few details of
our Volunteering for Impact program
conducted by Sikshana in the last few
months.
Volunteer Engagement Activity article
continues on Page 3.
Dell’s constant encouragement about
integrating technology in education sys-
tem was witnessed in Government Higher
Primary School of Anaberu of Davanag-
ere South Block of Karnataka. Sikshana
has been able to provide the school a
smart board along with related LAN con-
nection with support of Dell Volunteering
Team led by VP-R&D of Dell Technolo-
gies Mr. B. Rudramani. This initiative will
equip the teachers to teach better through
use of technology. Along with these a
water purifier was also provided to the
school as part of Sikshana's WASH initia-
tive. (in picture– left). This event was also
Volunteer Impact with Dell covered in the local news
channel and the video bit
can be viewed here.
“Had great event at Anaberu,
very well organized event. The
school staff and localities are
highly appreciative. An alum-
ni of this govt school is our
employee. Kids are super excit-
ed. I am confident that our
contribution and effort will
truly produce results. Thank you for the oppor-
tunity. Staff from Sikshana are simply awesome,
their passion and commitment for the cause is
highly visible. Great effort by you in hiring such
people at district level” said Mr. Rudramuni
regarding the event.
Dell Volunteers have also been exploring
their creative side and helping Sikshana by
creating learning aids and board games for
helping the students learn Math better (in
picture—right). So far, we have been able
to help 15 schools with these learning aids
and are looking forward to reaching many
more.

Success of Sikshana Foundation lies in its
ability to have a long term association with
its employees who show a whole hearted
acceptance towards the organization’s vi-
sion. We would like to recognize and con-
gratulate this edition’s Sikshana Saadhaka as
Ms. Sukanya N who is currently the Sen-

in getting the tasks completed in time and

involving school teachers for the same is
commendable as it has led the teachers to
better understand Sikshana’s initiatives.
“I joined Sikshana Foundation as a Shaala
Hitaishi (School’s Well-wisher) in 2012 and have
gained immense knowledge and values from the
organization. My communication skills and convinc-

biggest satisfaction with Sikshana is the opportunity
that I have received to work with and towards chil-

Volunteer Impact with Allstate
Government School students of Haveli Block,
Pune, Maharashtra had the golden opportunity of
visiting the campus of Allstate Solutions, Pune.
A 25 member team from Allstate conducted an
informative session for the students, which fo-
cused on increasing their awareness on what kind
of jobs exist in formal labor market and how they
should prepare for the same. The students later
toured the campus and learnt about the various
aspects of the company and its functions along
with enjoying the campus itself. Volunteers along
with the students also took part in a T-Shirt
Painting event where the students had fun illus-
trating captions and palm prints on the T-shirts.
Overall it was a great exposure for the students
which will keep them motivated for a long time
and hopefully they will be able to motivate their
peers to perform better in school, so that they can
be shortlisted for the next visit (see picture
above).
Brillio, one of our newest partners -
in its first ever Volunteer Engagement
with us focused on the environmental
needs of the area and planted saplings
in the campus of Govt. Higher Prima-
ry School, Dyavasandra – Kanakapura
Block, Karnataka. 25 volunteers par-
ticipated in this event and ensured
that the greenery around the school
campus is kept intact for many years
to come. Team Brillio also interacted
with the students of the school and
conducted workshops to create aware-
ness regarding importance of planting
trees, state of global warming and
impact of water wastage on us and the
world (see picture below).
Volunteer Impact with Brillio Volunteer Impact with Amadeus
In its launch of Volunteer Engage-
ment activities with Sikshana, Team
Amadeus put on the creative cap and
had fun teaching art & craft to stu-
dents. 48 volunteers visited five differ-
ent schools in Anekal Block of Karna-
taka and interacted with nearly 700
students. Team Amadeus created vari-
ous art & craft artifacts and taught
some to the students too. GHPS
Muthanaluru, Anekal Block received a
makeover with various curriculum
aligned pictures adorning the school’s
outer walls. The excitement of the
students buzzing with enthusiasm was
palpable and they readily participated
in all the fun filled art & craft activities
organized by Team Amadeus. (see
picture above).
