Curriculum Snapshot-Chamber Chorus Unit 1-Review-Weeks 1-4 Students will review construction and performance of Triads (M, m, °, +) and Scales (Major, 3 Minor). Unit 2-DRM Weeks 5-8 Students will further study the patterns and intervals involving D, R, & M. Sightsinging examples will be performed. Unit 3-DRMS Weeks 9-12 Students will further study the patterns and intervals involving D, R, M, & S. Sightsinging examples will be performed. MUSICIANSHIP RHYTHM/METER REPERTOIRE Unit 1 Weeks 1-3 Students will work on rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving Quarter, Half, Dotted Half, and Whole Notes and Rests. Unit 2-Weeks 4-6 Students will work on rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving Upbeats, Ties, and Various Endings (DC, DS, and 1 st & 2 nd endings). Unit 3-Weeks 7-9 Students will work on rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving syncopation. Unit 4- Weeks10-12 Students will work on rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving 8 th notes, rests, and upbeats. Folk & Polyphonic Music Weeks 1-10 Students will prepare music representing the folk idiom, and also polyphonic music in order to foster musical independence. Furthermore, students will prepare music for performance at the Lakeside Choral Festival. (or similar festival[s]) Music selected, when juxtaposed with other yearly repertoire, should add to satisfy the yearly curricular requirements. Holiday Music Weeks 9-18 Students will prepare concert music specifically for the Winter concert, typically held the 2 nd week of December. Music will reflect the season, and should, when juxtaposed with the other yearly repertoire, satisfy all the curricular requirements for concert music.

Students will review construction and

R, M, S, & high D. Sightsinging examples

will be performed.

Unit 5-Review-Weeks17-18

Students will review the above for the Final.

Unit 6-F Weeks19-22

Students will further study the patterns and intervals involving D,

R, M, F, S, & D. Sightsinging examples

will be performed.

Unit 7-T Weeks23-26

Students will further study the patterns and

interval involving all previous plus T.

Sightsinging examples will be performed.

Unit 5-Weeks13-15 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving the dotted quarter/eighth note

pattern and corresponding rests.

Unit 6-Weeks16-18 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises

involving the eighth/dotted quarter

pattern and corresponding rests.

Unit 7-Weeks19-21 Students will prepare

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving 16th notes

beamed together and with 8th notes, and

syncopation variations.

Unit 8-Weeks 22-24 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises

involving triplets-eighth note and

quarter note.

Unit 9-Weeks 25-27 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving 3/8 and 6/8

time signature exercises with all

previous techniques.

Solo Work Weeks 19-27

Students will prepare individual classical solos (either art songs or arias)

in order to prepare for the IHSA Solo &

Ensemble Festival. Musical independence will be stressed and students will also

evaluate and assess each others’ solos.

Large Ensemble Work Weeks 19-32

Students will prepare concert music

specifically for the IHSA Organizational Festival.

(or similar festival[s]) Music here will reflect the most serious of the Repertoire, and should, when juxtaposed with

the other yearly repertoire, satisfy all the curricular requirements

for concert music.

Unit8-L.C.P.’s Weeks 27-30

Students will study the patterns and intervals involving all diatonic

pitches and the lowered chromatic pitches.

Sightsinging examples wil be performed.

Unit9-R.C.P.’s Weeks 31-34

Students will study the patterns and intervals involving all diatonic

pitches and the raised chromatic pitches.

Sightsinging examples will be performed.

Unit 10-Review- Weeks 35-36

Students will review the above for the Final.

Unit10-Weeks 28-30 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving 9/8 & 12/8

time signature exercises with all

previous techniques.

Unit11-Weeks 31-33 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving 16th/dotted

8th, dotted 8th/16th, and diminished syncopation

patterns.

Unit12-Weeks 34-36 Students will work on

rehearsed and sightreading exercises involving mixed meters and irregular meters.

Finale Music Weeks 28-36

Students will prepare concert music

specifically for the Finale concert,

typically held the 1st week of May. Music

should blend the light and the serious, and when juxtaposed with

the other yearly repertoire, satisfy all

the curricular requirements for concert music.

Students may also prepare individual

pieces for final exams.
