Areas of focus
18
Funding for:
• Plans, feasibility studies and pilot projects
• Capital projects
• Sectors: energy, transportation, waste, water, brownfields
Green Municipal Fund (GMF)
Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program
Goal: Accelerated transition to low carbon (mitigation) and resilient (adaptation)communities in Canada
How we get there:
(1) By building awareness and increasing skills of municipalities in: (a) climate change mitigation, (b) adaptation and (c) integration of climate change and asset management
(2) By providing funding to municipalities of various sizes across Canada reduce GHG emissions or reduce in vulnerability to climate change impacts
(3) By mobilizing key lessons from FCM activities and other organizations
MCIP Funding

• Water & wastewater: improved efficiency of treatment plants
• Solid waste: LFG capture
• Transportation: municipal fleet study
• Community initiatives: residential energy retrofits

GMF and MCIP Comparison
Focus of GMF
• Overall sustainability
• For mitigation projects:
• Reduction in energy consumption (instead of GHG for energy projects)
• Innovation
• New or existing infrastructure
Focus of MCIP
• Climate change mitigation, adaptation and integration of climate risks into asset management
• For mitigation projects:
• GHG emission reductions
• Existing emissions (only retrofits site or neighbourhood scale)
• For adaptation projects:
• Adapting infrastructure to specified climate change risks
