Increasing efficiency helps to reduce the operating costs of mobile working machines. Rexroth offers with the patented Shift on Fly concept a travel drive which ensures high tractive force up to the maximum speed without hesitation and with high efficiencies. In addition, it provides a high operating comfort for mobile working machines (e.g. telehandler, wheeled loader). The drawback is that the required tractive force and speed range must be selected before starting off. This means, it is not possible to run through the entire tractive force and speed ranges. Switching between the operating ranges is only possible manually when the vehicle has come to a complete stop. The patented Rexroth Shift on Fly concept SOF, which was developed together with well-known gear manu- facturers, reduces this time loss and inefficiency. SOF is based on a synchronized gear shifting and enables starting off in the first gear without tractive force compromises. At the same time, the high efficiency of the hydrostatic travel drive is maintained. Switching into the second gear can be done while moving. In contrast to a standstill transmission, the desired maximum speed is achieved noticeably faster. These rapid, reversible gear changes while driving contribute significantly towards increasing the efficiency of mobile working machines.

The Rexroth Shift on Fly concept is especially suitable for mobile machines with an operating weight of 6 to 15 tons or an engine power of 40 to 150 kilowatts.

High comfort: Fast and synchronized gear changes without stoppingRexroth Shift on Fly concept enables rapid and synchro-nized gear changes for the driver while moving. The fully automatic switchover between the operating ranges increases both the operating and driving comfort.If necessary, the driver can also manually shift the gears without stopping.

Reliable and proven series componentsRexroth has many years of experience in the development and production of high quality drive solutions. This comprehensive expertise has been applied in the develop-ment of the Rexroth Shift on Fly concept. SOF consists of proven and perfectly harmonized standard production components (e.g. controller, hydraulic units A4VG and A6VM) and offers high reliability. All required components can be selected from an existing assembly kit and combined for the respective application purpose.

Meets functional safety requirementsThe BODAS RC12 -10 controller used by Rexroth meets the requirements of functional safety as prescribed by DIN EN ISO 13849. For example, the Rexroth BODAS controller has integrated security functions and measures to prevent unexpected vehicle movement, excessive acceleration or braking and false interpretation of the driving direction. Compact size for limited installation spaceWith the patented Shift on Fly concept, Rexroth has developed a travel drive that is economical but also compact. The compact dimensions of the components allow the installation of the Rexroth SOF in mobile working machines with limited space (e.g. telehandlers, wheeled loaders, wheeled excavators).
