ORS 206.010 General duties of sheriff. The sheriff is the chief executive officer and conservator of the peace of the county. In the execution of the office of sheriff, it is the sheriff’s duty to:o Arrest and commit to prison all persons who break the peace, or attempt to

break it, and all persons guilty of public offenses. (Patrol / Jail / supporting staff (*including comms / records, etc.)

o Defend the county against those who, by riot or otherwise, endanger the public peace or safety. (Patrol / Jail / Supporting staff)

o Execute the process and orders of the courts of justice or of judicial officers, when delivered to the sheriff for that purpose, according to law. (Civil /Patrol & supporting staff)

Note: high area of liability concern 1 FTE support staff anticipated retirement end of 2014. Need a well trained replacement.

Significant increase in mandatory Sheriff Forfeiture Sales. Each sale takes an enormous amount of ongoing follow up and time to adhere to posting guidelines, notices, etc. Forfeiture’s are taking the majority of the time for the 1 FTE currently working in Civil Office and other S.O. employees are trying to assist workload for other duties such as Civil Paper Service tracking, Concealed Handgun Licenses and Fingerprinting.

Currently 1.7 FTEs, requested budgeted amount increases to 2.0 FTE Request increasing .7 FTE to a 1.0 FTE level During 2013/14 budget year we lost the Lead

Dispatcher. The duties and assignments provided by this position have been spread out amongst other employees. This has caused a work load increase on the dispatch division’s remaining employees. The requested increase from .7 FTE to 1 FTE is to adjust to cover those duties.
