We have withstood the test of challenges and times but our doors remain open. Shaw University is the oldest historical African American institution in the south and was built on a foundation of God, love, justice and equal opportunities for all men and women. We need your support and participation to maintain our University and our high standards of excellence. I would like to thank all alumni for their generous contributions be it time, money or talent. Our remarkable alumni worked hard to raise funds in the past so we can do the same in raising $1 million. These funds will be used for student scholarships/adopt-a-student and/or basic ongoing upkeep of the university. Your support has allowed several of our students to remain in school. To access some of their testimonies please log onto shawunaa.net. $203,000 was allocated toward unrestricted student funds in 2010 and $203,000 for unrestricted. The NAA campaign continues with a new challenge to raise $1 million by fiscal year ending June 30 th , 2012. Emily Perry, President of NAA speaks at Annual Alumni Banquet

Greetings Shaw Alumni:

As we continue to rejoice from an outstanding homecoming 2011 and begin a fundraiser for $1 million to assist our university, let us remain prayerful and positive about the future of Shaw University.

HOMECOMING CELEBRATION

On July 12th, 2011, the National Alumni Association of Shaw University  obtained 501c3 status. Special thanks to the following NAA members who initiated this process. Charles Sparks was very instrumental in beginning this process for the NAA and the late Glenn Horton who worked very diligently to start the paper work for the 501c3 status. We are grateful for both individuals who shared in this tremendous effort, in order to move the NAA to the next level. Antowanna Blount worked tirelessly day and night to assist the NAA with making sure that we had all the appropriate documents to submit to the Internal Revenue Service. We greatly appreciate the time that she worked and it will never be forgotten.

Now that we have the 501c3 status the real work begins. What does this mean for NAA?  This means we are now ready to raise some money for our Alma Mater by measures of tax deduction, which we did not have before. It means that all contributions are now tax deductible through the NAA , except for goods and services that are provided. Can we count on you? We raised over $400,000 in a short period of time in the past. We are confident that we can repeat our success.

We thank you in advance for your time and financial efforts and we know with God’s help we will achieve our goal.

STUDENTS FIRST! PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR STUDENTS AT SHAW!
