Brave

This week, students are learning about the ‘R’ in Brave. ‘R’ stands for ‘Respect yourself and tell them to stop.’ This is an important skill for students to learn so that they are able to be resilient. We ask that you discuss this with your child and talk about ways to be ask others to stop a certain behaviour.

SPORTS NEWS

District Athletics Carnival

Despite cold morning conditions, our students once again represented our school with wonderful sportsmanship and great team spirit at our District Athletics carnival. Personal bests were achieved and a ‘never give up attitude’ displayed. Thank you to students for their exemplary behavior and sportsmanship. Students who were successful in qualifying for events will be competing at the Regional Carnival in Canberra next Friday. Well done and good luck!

LISPS Regional team members - Malokai Tomo, Noah Carberry, Will Starling, Ajay Flavell, Thomas Jolliffe, Jake Attard, Max Subotic, Robie Hodgson, Josh Carberry, Kelly Blair and Sunni Lord-Drougas.

A special mention to Ajay Flavell, who was awarded senior boys champion. An achievement he surely should be proud of. Please make sure regional forms are returned to Miss Hale this week.

Backyard League Super Session

The NRL are running their first Backyard League Super Session on Thursday 20th August. Permission notes were sent out, last week to all boys and girls in Stage 2 and 3. Students will experience an hour of non-contact rugby league and dragon tag activities at the local Warilla oval. Please make sure permission notes are returned ASAP for this free, fun filled event.

PSSA Gala Day

The Mid South District PSSA Gala Day is also fast approaching – Friday September 11th. Stage 2 and 3 students will attend the relay day, which is a fundraiser for Mid South PSSA. Students will be involved in activities provided by local associations such as the NRL, AFL, and Little ‘A’s. There will also be prizes and raffles on the day. Permission notes will go out early next week, please help to support a worthy fundraising initiative for school sport.

National Tree Planting Day

Yesterday the Environmental Interest Group went to Blackbutt Reserve to plant trees for future generations.

We all had a great time planting over 360 trees, grasses and plants.

After we planted the trees we watered them and went for a walk through the reserve. We learnt about different trees, animals and reptiles.

During recess, we had a sausage sizzle and were given a gift of a ball, hat or pencil case from Bunnings.

Mayor Saliba came to visit and discussed the history of Blackbutt and how we as students are connected to the land of Shellharbour.

Anton and Sadi were lucky enough to take Mayor Saliba for a tour and explanation of what we had planted.

Our wonderful day couldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for Landcare, Oak Flats Bowling Club, Bunnings Warehouse and Shellharbour Council.
