Girl Scout Daisies sign up KDG-1st gr.
Girl scouting guides girls to become leaders in their daily lives, their communities and the world – helping them become the kind of person exemplified by the Girl Scout Law. When girls – as the Girl Scout Law states – are “honest and fair,” when they “use resources wisely,” and know how to be “courageous and strong,” they can be more successful in everything they do. Meetings will be every Monday from 6:00-7:00 in the NLES Cafeteria.
Email [email protected] for questions.
Shamrock Pit Row
Great job drivers for pulling up north along the sidewalk when dropping and picking up your child. This simple request makes for a smooth pit stop and exit to your destination. Be cautious of your Pit Speed, Pit Crew (kids), and patience with others. Do not get penalized for these violations. The north parking lot has been a popular location to pick up your child. We encourage this area to avoid congestion near the busses.
Office Reminders
Absence: Call the office by 8:30 with reason and
homework request by 10:00 AM. Dr. Office notes expected with any appointment for proper documentation.
Transportation Change: Written note with name and
address for bus/car. If calling, notify office before 1:30 PM.

6th Graders - Archery
The NLES 6th grade students are in the middle of their
NASP Archery unit and having a fantasc me. So what is
NASP? NASP stands for Naonal Archery in the Schools Pro-
gram. NASP promotes internaonal-style archery as part of
the in-school curriculum to improve educaonal perfor-
mance and parcipaon in the shoong sports among stu-
dents in grades 4-12. Nearly everyone can enjoy success at
archery. The sport or discipline of archery is highly inclu-
sive and is for many enthusiasts, a life long acvity. Ar-
chery is a diverse and super-safe shoong acvity with a
wide variety of formats and
styles. In NASP-style archery,
students of all genders, abili-
es and backgrounds flourish.

Fall Fundraising - TBD
Market Day has been the
annual PE fundraiser
that has helped our PE
department purchase
new equipment in the
last few years. With the
efforts of all of the K-4th
graders, we now have
acvies to look forward to such as Badminton, Frisbee,
Tennis, Pickleball, 9-Square in the Air and other fun ac-
vies. Some other items under consideraon for future
fundraising $ include bicycles, climbing wall, and inflata-
ble bumper balls. Unfortunately, Market Day has been
bought out and doesn't exist any longer so we are inves-
gang other alternaves for fund raising opportuni-
es. So be on the lookout for a new Fall Fundraiser for
opportunies to support our PE department and expand
our equipment for all of the students.
1st and K Graders - Perceptual Motor
Perceptual-Motor abilies are strengthened through acvi-
es with bean bags, balls, jump ropes, hoops, and scooters
which are all units that these grades will be parcipang in
in the coming weeks. Perceptual motor development at
this stage is an important part of the PE process.
Primary objecves: 1. Assist each student in acquiring efficient movement.
2. Promote improved sensory funconing.
3. Development of a posive self-image.
The main areas of program concentraon are in promong
improved: 1. Balance Skills (Stac and Dynamic)
2. Locomotor Skills (Transport Movements)
3. Hand-Eye and Foot-Eye Coordinaon
4. Body and Space Awareness
4th - 3rd - 2nd Graders - GOLF
The First Tee Naonal School Golf Program curriculum centers on four primary areas: 1) life-
long acvity, 2) character and health educaon – personal and social responsibility, 3) motor
skill and concept learning, and 4) developmental approach to learning. Parcipang students
acvely engage in a variety of motor skills associated with striking a staonary ball with a
long-handled implement to a target. Striking is taught through the basic golf skills of puA,
chip, pitch and full swing in gradual progression to align with students’ developmental process as they move through
24 lessons throughout the elementary years. Basic skills are presented to students on how to hold, set up, and safely
swing a puAer and a wedge. Cue word sequences are taught to enable students to beAer understand the body posi-
ons for performing the crical elements of each skill. Students parcipang in the Naonal School Program will learn
the basic motor skill concepts of personal space, force, flow, relaonships to objects, and rounes.
As a culminaon to the Golf classes, 4th grade students will visit the Tri-Way Family Golf Facility in Plymouth to pracce
the new skills that they have learned on September 11th (rain date September 15th). They will be travelling by bus,
and permission slips and money for the 4th grade students are due to their homeroom teacher by Friday, September
4th. Don’t forget that those students will need to bring a brown bag lunch to eat upon their return to school that day.
5th Graders - Bowling
The NLES 5th grade students are in the middle of their
Bowling unit and it is a striking good me. So why do we
teach Bowling? Bowling is a great sport for everyone!
• There are no size or strength limitaons for success.
• Bowling is a Family-Oriented Acvity.
• Bowling builds self -confidence and posive self-esteem.
• Bowling is a great team sport.
• Bowling is a great individual sport.
• Bowling can be enjoyed in a social or a compeve form.
• Bowling is a success-oriented lifeme sport.
• Bowling provides enjoyment for children of any age.
• Bowling is FUN!
We will take a field trip to Chippewa Bowl on September
16th for lunch and bowling. Bowling permission slips
and money are due Wednesday, September 9th.
EASY WAYS TO SUPPORT NLES
You can help NLES get a share of $175,000 in educational equipment (balls for recess, etc.) just by using your Martin’s Advantage Card when you shop! You’ll earn the school a point for every dollar you spend. The school’s total earned points will be split proportionally for credit
among all other schools signed up for the program. You must register your card at http://www.martins-supermarkets.com/advantageeducation/ or at a Martin’s customer service desk for your
purchases to count. Our School Code is 4785.
Snap pictures of your receipts from any store, big or small, that sells grocery items to earn Roo Points (cash donations) for the Summer Reading Program. Receipts from restaurants and non-grocery retailers count as an entry for our school into Shoparoo's $1,000 monthly sweepstakes and $15,000 yearly sweepstakes! Download the free Shoparoo app to your phone and start earning points in minutes.
Purchase your favorite Coca-Cola beverages and get My Coke Rewards codes. Go to www.mycokerewards.com to register and enter the codes. After entering the codes, choose to donate them to our school. You can also send the caps in with your child and we
will take care of entering the codes. A bin for the caps is located in the school lobby. Accumulated points will be used to purchase items such as athletic equipment and classroom supplies from a coke rewards catalog. Please send in caps with entered codes to support our Community Bench Project program.
Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products. Clip box tops from packages and send them in with your child. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Teachers can use Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need for their own classrooms. Collection sheets can be picked up in the
office. Please do not attach BONUS Box Tops to the collection sheets. Put them in an envelope marked with the name of your child’s teacher and turn them in separately.
Labels for Education UPCs from over 2,500 participating products earn points for the whole school that can be redeemed by Mr. Romer for Arts, Athletics, and Academics merchandise found in the Labels for Education catalog. Collection sheets are available in the school
office.
Community Bench Project- This program is offered through Green Tree Plastics in Evansville to involve young people in recycling and community service. Caps from household recycling can be made into benches for our community. Any plastic cap that is clean and free of metal may be donated. 400 pounds + $200 = One Bench. A collection bin is located in the school lobby.
Printer and Copier Cartridges- Send in all types of empty printer and copier ink cartridges to help the fourth grade classes earn store credit from STAPLES.
Pop tabs may also be turned in to help support the operating costs of the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. The House provides lodging for families while their children receive life-saving treatment at Indianapolis-area hospitals, primarily Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Please place them in an envelope or plastic bag.

The Swoop Scoop
“Swoop” is a nickname for our Title I Program. Students in grades K-3 may qualify for extra reading
support each semester thanks to a federally funded program for which JGSC qualifies.
Our groups are led by our dedicated Swoop Crew. Monday through Thursday, our instructional aides
work within K-3rd grade reading classes. Some students work in the Swoop room in the afternoons
for short periods. The students work in consistent small groups with reading lessons led by an
instructional aide. Our Swoop aides are Mrs. Craft, Mrs. MacLeod, Mrs. Tibbs, and Ms. Zoellner. Mrs.
Amy Weiss is the Title I teacher at NLES. Mrs. Weiss alternates between groups in order to work with
each student several times throughout the semester.
Along with the small groups, our Swoop Crew will host some special
events this year. Swoopers and their parents are invited to our Camp
Swoop on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30-7:00. An invitation was
mailed to those families. RSVP as soon as possible. It is sure to be an
enjoyable evening!
