Corpi sciamanici La nozione di persona nello studio dello sciamanesimo Shamanic bodies The notion of personhood in the study of shamanism «One book, one research, and another book» Marianna Ferrara and Alessandro Saggioro is collection of essays arises from a series of meetings on shamanism organised in Rome by scholars in different disciplines, as part of the ‘Shamanic Bodies’ Project (Department of History, Cultures, Religions, Sapienza University of Rome). e common theme of the essays is the centrality of the ‘shamanic body’ and its empowerment in the his- tory of religious studies, literature, symbolic practices, mythical repertoires, and eventually the scientific discourse. Our research project is aimed at examining the impact of altered states of consciousness on the body. e social and religious implications of the alteration of both consciousness and behaviour may be considered as means of construction of the relationship with the extra-ordinary dimension as well as of the commu- nicative dynamics between the individual and Otherness (human, extra-human, and animal). e volume is composed of a series of essays drawing upon different approaches: historical-comparative, historical literal, case-studies, ethnographic researches. e essays attempt to define the use, perception and representation of the body as an interpretive means to rethink the notion of shamanism and that of personhood – hereby considered as the character who acts, speaks, and self-represents in an altered state of consciousness, be it definable as a form of ecstasy or possession. CALL FOR PAPERS e edited book is ready for printing as a new volume of the series Sapienza Sciamanica (Rome: Nuova Cultura), but we would like to further differentiate and enlarge the field of research with an international section. We would also be pleased to translate into Italian some works published in other language that are not protected by copyright.
