Café News This month, students having lunch in the Shakerag Café are enjoying cucumbers locally grown at Southern Valley Farms in Norman Park, GA. This is another awesome veggie that is a part of Fulton County’s “Farm to School” program with local growers supplying schools with nutritious produce to feed the bright minds of students. The saying “cool as a cucumber” can be true. Cucumbers can be cooler on the inside when compared to their surface temperature. Throughout the month, these cukes have brightened all types of salads being offered to our Shakerag Sharks at lunch time.

As a reminder, effective May 10, NO CHARGES WILL BE ALLOWED FOR BREAKFAST OR LUNCH ACCOUNTS. If your

student does not have enough money in their account, they will be served an alternative lunch item instead of choosing something from the menu. Remember that lunch costs $2.45 and Breakfast costs $1.10. As a guideline, your student should have at least $80 in their cafeteria account if they purchase lunch every day at school; they should have $115 if they purchase lunch AND breakfast at school. If your student does have a balance due on their meal account at the end of the school year, they will not receive a report card. Funds may be added by sending in cash or a check with your student, or you can visit

www.mypaymentsplus.com and add funds. You can also see the history of your student’s purchases. If your student still has funds on their lunch card at the end of the school year, those funds will still be there in the Fall as long as they are a student in Fulton County.

All birthday celebration requests for treats during lunch in the cafeteria must be submitted by FRIDAY, MAY 10. Any forms for

treats submitted after that date will not be honored. We will be able to fulfill requests for birthday celebrations until Tuesday, May 21.

Procedures for Visiting & Volunteering

For the 2018-2019 school year, all volunteers must complete the registration process again. The registration process can be found on the FCS District Website under Community/Partners & Volunteers or click here. Applicants should be prepared to

spend about 10-15 minutes for the training and application process. In accordance with State Law, all volunteers must be current with the Child Abuse Reporting Protocol Training before being allowed to volunteer in our schools. It is very important that volunteers enter their full legal name as it appears on their government issued ID.

School Governance We invite you to visit our School Governance Council (SGC) website, which can be accessed by clicking here or via our school website (click here) under the ‘ABOUT’ drop-down menu. Our latest Strategic Plan as well as other relevant SGC information is posted to this site for your convenience. Our next SGC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 at 7:15 a.m.

Have a great weekend!
