Greetings and welcome to the programme for St Andrew’s and St George’s West at Festival Time 2019! My name is Rosie Magee and I am the recently inducted minister at St Andrew’s and St George’s West. This will be my first year experiencing the entire month of Edinburgh Festivals ‘up close’. It is such a delight to see the many and varied offerings in this year’s schedule at St Andrew’s and St George’s West. All of the performers are new to me and I feel like a ‘kid in a cultural candy store’ as I see what is in store. In keeping with the culture of hospitality at St Andrew’s and St George’s West there is nurture for mind,

body and spirit throughout the festival season. There is classical, chamber, opera, jazz, swing, folk music and musical theatre as well as organ recitals on the church’s splendid Wells-Kennedy organ. I am drawn to so many performances it is hard to single out any one.

As you look through this programme you will be drawn to different events – and that is just as it should be. Hopefully there is something for everyone. And while you are at the church take some time for refreshment in our wonderful Undercroft Café – serving fairly-traded coffee, treats and lunches. Our services of worship continue throughout the festival. You would be made most welcome at any of our three Sunday morning services. Be sure to introduce yourselves – this is a time to forge new connections and make re-connections.

I hope you enjoy being a part of St Andrew’s and St George’s West at Festival Time 2019 and that you will feel at home here. There is much to discover and enjoy!

Chopin, Schumann and Albeniz

Alan Graham plays Chopin’s Bb minor sonata and a selection from Schumann’s Noveletten. These two Early Romantic masters produced wonderful masterpieces for the piano. The audience is kept on the edge of their seat. Included in the programme are two pieces from the suite Iberia by Albeniz.

Worship at St Andrew’s & St George’s WestOur church is open for worship seven days a week.

Sunday Worship

9am serviceSunday Communion: reflective sacramental worship lasting 30 minutes. At 9am Communion we gather in a circle or round a table to pray, reflect and share the Lord’s Supper with each other.

9.45am serviceSunday All Age Worship: creative, participative worship for all ages lasting 30-40 minutes. The 9.45 service incorporates new liturgy and creative activities for all ages. It is led by members and is by turns challenging, dynamic or reflective. We also lead the music with a variety of instruments and a monthly Leaning Together Band.

11am serviceWarm, friendly, traditional worship with music lasting 1 hour. At 11am morning worship we enjoy music from our excellent choir, hymns, prayers, a children’s talk and usually a sermon or short talk. Children spend some time at the main service and then move to our Bright Sparks programme of creative learning and play.
