FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE TICKETS
Tickets are now on sale for the Annual SHA Father-Daughter Dinner Dance taking place on Friday, February 3,
6-10 pm at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency. We hope to see all the Sacred Heart girls there! There are only a few days
for in house ticket sales so please read ticket form closely for further instructions. Questions can be directed to
Debbie Sippel at [email protected] or Jennifer Hill at [email protected]. Please see Pages 8 and 9 for all the
details.
PARKING LOTS
As a common courtesy and to ease traffic flow in the Key Bank parking lot, please remember to pull into a
designated parking space when dropping off or picking up your daughter. Please do not block others by situating
your vehicle right outside of the Key Bank door. Also remember that the speed limit in the Key Bank lot is 10 mph.
We have had a few close calls with parents, students, and boyfriends speeding in the lot.
Please also remember that you should use the Key Bank lot exclusively for picking up and dropping off your
daughter - the Clare Music Hall lot should NOT be used for this purpose. Thank you for your full cooperation.

Pages 15 and 16 for more details.
GOING HOME SICK
Students are required to be assessed by the school nurse if they want to go home due to illness. Any students that
contact their parents to be picked up from school without first seeing the nurse will be given detention. This rule was
discussed during orientation at the beginning of the year and was also in the newsletter last fall. Heretofore, the
excuse of "I didn't know that was a rule" by a student is unacceptable and will result in an automatic detention.
RESURGENCE BREWING CO.

The Junior Class parents are hosting a gift gathering party for the Sandstone (April 1st) at Resurgence Brew on

Sacred Heart Academy’s 12th Annual
Day of Sharing What is it?
Day of Sharing is a school-wide day of service in the community. Students, faculty, staff, alumnae, the Board of Directors, and anyone else in the SHA community are invited to join us for our eleventh annual SHA Day of Sharing. Last year Sacred Heart sent more than 700 people to 60 different sites to share their time and talent to benefit our community and the people in our community. Some of the sites we served last year were Amherst Meals on Wheels, Burchfield Nature and Art Center, Equi Star Therapeutic Riding Center, and Women and Children’s Hospital.
When is it? This year’s Day of Sharing will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017. All volunteers will meet at Sacred Heart at 8:00
a.m. for a commissioning service and then we will go out into the community. We will volunteer at our sites from about 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. All of the volunteers will return to school to enjoy dessert and beverages in the cafeteria with one another.
Interested in joining us? There are several ways to get involved and this day wouldn’t happen without all of the great volunteers like
yourself. You are invited to join us for the entire day and volunteer at one of our sites. We also need individuals who would be interested in simply driving our volunteers to and from their sites. There is also some behind-the scenes work that needs to be done. If you are interested in participating in this year’s Day of Sharing in any way please fill out the information sheet at the bottom of this page and send it to Sacred Heart Academy, Attn: Bridget McGuinness, 3860 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14226. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Bridget McGuinness at 834-2101 ext. 312 or at [email protected]. More information will be sent home to all registered volunteers closer to the date.

Tau RETREAT 2017
Sacred Heart Campus Ministry
Tau is a religious retreat program grounded in the Charism of St. Francis. Charism is a general term that
indicates a personal gift of the Spirit used for the good of the Church. A faithful person receives a charism, the gift of the Holy Spirit, when he/she opens himself/herself to God's grace. As a Franciscan school, we aim to observe the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ by following the example of St. Francis of Assisi, who made Christ the inspiration
and the center of his life with God and people. Tau is an ancient symbol also known as the Franciscan Cross. Tau
is the 19th letter of the Greek alphabet that represents Theos or God. During this retreat, the students will have the opportunity to spend meaningful time with God within our Christian community. Retreatants will experience a series of talks given both by peers and adults and participate in many individual and group activities. Prayer and the Sacraments are an essential part of the program as well as the participants' involvement in discussions and other exercises.
The purpose of Tau is to allow the retreatant to see the value of her Christian faith as experienced in
community. With the support of that community, she can more effectively find her true worth as a person in relationship with God, her family and her friends. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants; sign-up early.
Retreat Details
Dates: Friday, February 10 – Saturday, February 11, 2017
Times: We will leave Sacred Heart at 3:00pm on Friday, February 10. Students will return to Sacred Heart at 5:30p.m. on Saturday, February 11.
Location: Camp Pioneer 9324 Lakeshore Rd, Angola, NY 14006
Cost: The cost of the retreat is $100 (which includes 1 night, 2 days’ room and board, retreat materials, and transportation to and from the retreat) and a treat to share. This money is non-refundable. Money is due when application is submitted. Seniors are allowed to register from January 12-20 and Juniors from January 17-20. All spaces are on a first-come first-serve basis. Applications, Code of Conduct Forms, and retreat fees are due no later than Friday, January 20. Please make checks payable to Sacred Heart Academy.
*No student will be excluded from retreat because of finances. Please speak to Ms. McGuinness or Mrs. Clare if cost
is an issue.
Transportation: Students will be transported to and from the retreat by SHA.
What to bring: Please bring comfortable, casual clothing and shoes. We will hopefully be spending some time
outside, so dress appropriately for winter weather. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, any toiletries needed, as well as
towels for showering. Please label all of your luggage and keep luggage to a minimum. Students will be staying in
quad bunk bed dorm rooms. Please also bring a Bible and a journal (optional.)
What NOT to bring: Sacred Heart’s policy on Alcohol/Tobacco/Substance abuse is in full effect. Do not bring any
of these items with you. Do not bring school work or books to read. We will be collecting all electronics such as
cell phones, ipods, tablets, computers, etc. You can not use the telephone during the retreat. Please do not plan
on calling anyone and do not tell anyone to call you. In case of an emergency, your parents will be given the cell
phone number of Ms. McGuinness and can reach you through her. It is important that you are fully attentive and
participatory in this retreat.

The buildings and grounds at Camp Pioneer are entrusted to us for our use. Please have respect for the facilities. Any form of vandalism (writing or carving on furniture, defacing walls, etc.) will require payment for any damage by the students involved in the incident.
