GRIP practice? Tapping practice?

Answering Your Questions from Module 1.

Module Two

Take what you learned in Module One.and

Start Getting Closer to the Pin

REMEMBER....We are still just CHIPPING

Chip shots vary from golfer to golfer.

This could be as little as 5 yds or up to 20 or more

Chip shots are basically NO FOOTWORK

With weight in front, there will be a bit of rotation for some

Land on Your Target Spot

Land on Your Target Spot

Use Your:

• SW• PW• 8-iron

Try and Vary the Height with EACH CLUB

Land on Your Target Spot

Do the Line Drill with EACH CLUB

Varying The Height of Your Chip Shots

Varying The Height of Your Chip Shots

Move Ball Forward = Higher Shot

Move Ball Back = Lower Shot

Varying The Height of Your Chip Shots

OPEN the Club Face = Higher Shot

CLOSE the Club Face = Lower Shot

Varying The Height of Your Chip Shots

• Keep hands in the same position for all of your golf shots

• I like mine just inside my left thigh

• This is what varies the shaft angle--and thus the shot height

Page 5: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

Remember... Controlling DISTANCE is the most important factor in the Short Game

Don’t be as concerned about DIRECTION

Learn to control your distance

Getting Close to the Pin

Getting Close to the Pin

To control distance, you need to know how far the ball is going to roll when it lands

When you learn to vary the club face angles, you will begin to control height and DISTANCE

Getting Close to the Pin

P-Wedge: FLY 1/2 and ROLLS 1/2

8-Iron: FLY 1/3 and ROLLS 2/3

Getting Close to the Pin

S-Wedge: FLY 2/3 and ROLLS 1/3

S-Wedge: FLY 2/3 and ROLLS 1/3

P-Wedge: FLY 1/2 and ROLLS 1/2

8-Iron: FLY 1/3 and ROLLS 2/3

This is ONLY a Rule of Thumb - NOT a LAW

AND it is based on LEVEL terrain and level or FLAT GREEN

Page 7: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work

If you are 15 yards from the pin and 6 or 7 yards off the green, then only the PW or the SW would land on the green in order to allow for the proper rollout.

If your ball is 15 yards from the pin and you are 8 or 9 yards off the green, only the SW will land on the green and roll out the way you have practiced

This is on FLAT, Fairly Level Ground.

Will have to be adjusted for uphill and downhill shots

Practice varying your heights (move the ball position around, open/close club face etc) you will be able to find a place with each club to make this work for you.

Page 8: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

UPHILL and DOWNHILL slopes are an estimated guess on..

How FAR and How HIGH to FLY it

Never try to feel the TOTAL DISTANCE.

The subconscious mind will try to hit the ball that far in the air!! This will cause you to decelerate in order to hit the ball the proper distance

! Deceleration will destroy your ability to control your shots

These shots all need to be struck with some degree of authority in order to create the necessary backspin for control

Using the Terrain to Your Advantage

Golfers tend to fear unlevel terrain and fight it

We need to learn to become familiar with unlevel terrain and become friendly with it

Learn when uphill terrain can: 1. slow your shot and 2. when it can be used accelerate you shot

By varying the angles you fly the ball into a hill can alter its reaction to the hill

Using the Terrain to Your Advantage

Page 9: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

A golf ball landing at 45° into a 45° hill nets out to be a ball landing at 90°

Practice and experiment with your shots at a practice area

Vary the heights and the velocity of your shots to see what they will do

Using the Terrain to Your Advantage

Specialty shots are not easy for any of us, even us professionals -- thatʼs why I want you to EXPERIMENT with them

•! Do you need to fly over the hill... or use it to help you stop the ball?

•! What if there is longer grass on the hill... than just over the hill?

Using the Terrain to Your Advantage

• These are things NO ONE can teach you

• Only you can figure it out for you

• All of this requires PRACTICE so you can gain EXPERIENCE

• That is why golfers struggle so much--they want a FORMULA that will replace EXPERIENCE. That will NEVER happen for anyone!

Using the Terrain to Your Advantage

PLAY A GAME:

“Miniature Golf”

Page 10: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

“Miniature Golf”

“Miniature Golf”

Take 10 balls and chip them onto the green

Starting with the closest balls to the cup, PUTT them all into the hole–keeping a total of all of your shots

To start, 25 to 30 can be your par

Work down to where you shoot 20 or less, and you will knock 10 shots off your handicap!!

Once again we are talking about PRACTICE & experience

“Miniature Golf”

Do this with each of your three clubs...

and learn to do it from the worst lies and situations you can imagine or find

They will show up on the golf course, so you might as well practice them

Golfers tend to do what little practice they do from easy situations

Put yourself to the test. . . It will always pay off

Preparing to Play

Make sure you get to the practice green before you tee-off your round of golf... So you can get a ʻreadʼ on how the greens are rolling that day.

Page 11: SGWEB Mod2 v2dkicmedia.s3.amazonaws.com/ASM_Mod2_slides.pdf · If you are 15 yards from the pin and 3 yards off the front of the green 8-iron, PW, or SW will all work If you are 15

PLAY A GAME:

“Fill the Cup with Golf Balls”

“Fill the cup with Golf Balls”

When you are practicing, fill the cup with golf balls

Use 20 to 50 golf balls, just like the ones you play on the course

See if you can fill the cup and have all of the rest of the balls crowded together and touching, around the cup

When you can do this you will hardly ever have more than a 2 foot putt left on the golf course

1. Chipping Line Drill (Landing Drill)

Start at 1-2 feet

Go out to 6 balls

Try do the drill with each club (SW, PW, 8iron)

2. Miniature Golf.

Start with 10 golf balls just off the green

Chip them on, and putt them in

Good start is 25-30 shots

Goal is 20 or less

Home Work

1. Expanding to the Pitch Shot

2. Going out to 75 yards

3. Making it Stick on the Green
