Seventh Annual Lake Sherwood Fishing

Tournament Update

When: September 8, 2012 (Saturday) Start Time:

6:45 am to Finish: 10:45 am

We are gearing up for the Seventh Annual Lake Sherwood Fishing Tournament. Hopefully the

successes of the past six years will carryover to this year’s event. Here are the rules for this

year so we can minimize any confusion:

Maximum two person teams must pre-register by e-mailing Dave Kaitschuck by noon

September 7th with the names of the entrants at [email protected] (More than one team

can fish from the same boat if you want.) Each TEAM participating must have a LSA resident.

Boats participating in the tournament can begin fishing at 6:45 am. There is no signaled start

or live well check. Boats can just begin fishing. The “weigh in” will be held on Higgins Island

at 10:45 am. Any boats arriving later than 10:45 am will not be eligible for prizes.

Format: This is an honor based fishing tournament. All fish are released after measurement

and no fish are brought to the “weigh-in”. Each team is fishing for one biggest fish of each

of the 7 identified species; bass, pike, walleye, perch, crappie, rock bass (new this year) and

bluegill/sunfish. For example, you and your partner catch 10 bass collectively, with the

biggest at 16 1⁄4”. This gives the team one bass at 16”. Always round down to the biggest

whole number achieved. Additionally, you collectively catch an 18 inch pike and 2 walleye,

the biggest 20 inches, 20 Bluegill, with the biggest at 7 3⁄4”, one 9 1⁄4” perch and 4

crappies, with the biggest at 11 1⁄2 and you do not catch a rock bass. You will add the full

inch length and come in with 16+18+20+7+9+ 11 + 0 = 81 total inches. If a “Big 7”species

is not caught, then 0 points are taken for that species. Note: A fish does not have to be of legal

size to count (see 18” pike).

Additionally and by request, to emphasize the great bass fishery we have, we will have a

second way to compete. Each 2 person team can combine the length of their 4 biggest bass. A

quick example would be: Steve and Suzy are fishing together as a team and catch 7 bass

collectively. They have an 18 1/4, a 15 3⁄4, a 14 even and a 12 1⁄2 as their biggest 4. The team

would report 18+15+14+12 for 59 points in the separate 4 Biggest Bass Category. The team

with the most overall length of the four bass wins. Again, no fish are brought to the weigh-in.

We will continue the individual category for kids ages 12 and under. The criteria for the

kids event will simply be the largest overall fish caught.

Trophies and fishing lures will be awarded to the first and second place teams in each

category.

As part of the “weigh-in”, refreshments will be provided. Also, please bring your digital

cameras so any good fishing photos from the day can be downloaded onto a laptop and

published on the LSA web-site. Remember, this is a tournament based on honesty, trust and

integrity. Make sure your boat has an accurate measuring device on board along with a tally

sheet or plain paper and a pen.

Additional Rules: No live Bait allowed. Trolling is permitted. Anchoring is permitted. All

Michigan Fishing Regulations apply. If someone is in you favorite spot, give them some room.

I look forward to seeing you and to good fishing!

Best regards,

Dave Kaitschuck

Note: In the event of extremely bad weather, the event will be postponed until the following

day (Sunday). This will be communicated through the LSA e-mail system the morning of the

event if necessary.
