1. Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest, And in our hearts take up thy rest; Come with thy grace and heav’nly aid To fill the hearts which thou hast made.

2. O Comfort blest, to thee we cry, Thou heavn’ly gift of God most high, Thou font of life and fire of love, And sweet anointing from above.

lory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we

glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Numbers 21:4b-9

he wicked say: Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings,

reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with violations of our training. Let us see whether his words be true; let us find out what will happen to him. For if the just one be the son of God, God will defend him and deliver him from the hand of his foes. With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his patience. Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own words, God will take care of him.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 54:3-4, 5, 6, 8

℟. The Lord upholds my life.

O God, by your name save me, and by your might defend my cause. O God, hear my prayer;

hearken to the words of my mouth. ℟.

For the haughty have risen up against me, the ruthless seek my life;

they set not God before their eyes. ℟.

Behold, God is my helper; the Lord sustains my life. Freely will I offer you sacrifice;

I will praise your name, O Lord, for its goodness. ℟.

SECOND READING James 3:16-4:3 eloved: Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from

above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace. Where do the wars and where do the conflicts among you come from? Is it not from your passions that make war within your members? You covet but do not possess. You kill and envy but you cannot obtain; you fight and wage war. You do not possess because you do not ask. You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

GOSPEL Mark 9:30-37

about it. He was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.” But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to question him. They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they remained silent. They had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in the their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.”

PROFESSION OF FAITH

believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and

for our salvation he came down from heaven, +Bow down+ and

by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became

man. +Stand+ For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM (9:30) G.F. Handel (1685-1759)

Lord, I Trust Thee, from Brockes Passion Lord I trust thee, I adore thee. Ah thou friend of man, restore me! On thy loving grace relying, for the bread of life I'm sighing. Quench my

thirst and let my hunger cease. Fill my heart with joy and endless peace. When the breath of life has left me, may my soul be blended

with thee.

OFFERTORY HYMN ST. ANNE

O God, Our Help in Ages Past 1. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home;

2. Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure. Sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone, short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream, bears all its sons away. They fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the op’ning day.

6. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, Be thou our guard while troubles last, and our eternal home.

Richard de Castre's Prayer to Jesus Jesu, Lord that madest me, and with Thy blessed blood hast bought, forgive that I have grieved Thee, with word, and will, and eke with thought. Jesu, for thy woundes smerte, on feet and one thyn handes two, O make me meeke and low of herte, and thee to love as I schulde do. Jesu, keepe them that are good, amende them that han grieved Thee. And send them fruit of earthli food as each man needeth in his degree.

COMMUNION HYMN CHRISTIAN LOVE

Where Charity and Love Prevail 1. Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found; Brought here together by Christ’s love, By love are we thus bound.

2. With grateful joy and holy fear His charity we learn; Let us with heart and mind and soul now love him in return.

3. Forgive we now each other’s faults as we our faults confess; And let us love each other well in Christian holiness.

4. Let strife among us be unknown, let all contention cease; Be his the glory that we seek, be ours his holy peace.

5. Let us recall that in our midst dwells God’s begotten Son; As members of his body joined, we are in him made one.

6. No race nor creed can love exclude, If honored be God’s name; Our brotherhood embraces all whose Father is the same.

CO W TRAWIE PISZCZY... GREETING BY FR. CYPRIAN CZOP, O.M.I.

Polska Szkoła Sobotnia im. A. Mickiewicza rozpoczęła kolejny rok nauczania.

Józefa patronem Kościoła, pomagają nam coraz lepiej przeżywać nasze chrześcijaństwo, zwłaszcza w rodzinach i w naszym Kościele lokalnym. „Ojciec czuły”, „ojciec przyjmujący”, „ojciec z twórczą odwagą”, „ojciec, człowiek pracy”, „ojciec w cieniu”—to tylko niektóre tytuły, które papież nadaje św. Józefowi, ale które powinny dotyczyć każdego z nas, którzy w różnej mierze uczestniczymy w ojcostwie Boga. Słowami modlitwy, którą dzisiaj proponuje nam Franciszek, prośmy o nasze nawrócenie, byśmy naśladowali w życiu przykłady świętych, a zwłaszcza wzór, jakim jest Patron Kościoła, św. Józef.

Msza Święta dzisiaj o 11:30 będzie w intencji Profesora Krzysztofa Frankowskiego, który zmarł 22-ego sierpnia. Był wieloletnim dyrektorem muzycznym chóru Topola.

O. Cyprian Czop, O.M.I.

Z OKAZJI 150. ROCZNICY OGŁOSZENIA ŚWIĘTEGO JÓZEFA PATRONEM KOŚCIOŁA POWSZECHNEGO

* * *

„Wstań, weź Dziecię i Jego Matkę” (Mt 2, 13), mówi Bóg do św.

Rz 8, 34).

Święci pomagają „wszystkim wiernym do osiągnięcia świętości i doskonałości własnego stanu”[28].

Do niego kierujemy naszą modlitwę:

Witaj, opiekunie Odkupiciela, i oblubieńcze Maryi Dziewicy.

Amen.

Rzym, u św. Jana na Lateranie, dnia 8 grudnia 2020, w Uroczystość Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny, w ósmym roku mojego Pontyfikatu.

Franciszek

AS THE WORLD SPINS, THE CROSS STANDS FIRM

LIVING IN COMMUNITY DURING ORDINARY TIME

Do you ever wonder why the liturgical season between Christmas and Easter is called “Ordinary Time”? We use the word “ordinary” as an adjective to indicate that something is common or indistinct. Consider, however, that “ordinary” comes from the Latin root “ordo” meaning “rule”. Think of taking vows during an ordination ceremony, accepting a set of rules that give order to your life. Although these weeks of ordinary

time are common compared to the Paschal Mystery seasons, they are an opportunity for you and me to order our lives. Permit me to share a story:

Everybody has at least one innocent hobby, or “inner geek”. Mine involves pulling on traditional Bavarian Lederhosen and dancing with the St Paul Edelweiss Schuhplattler Gruppe (Gesundheit). I look forward to Oktoberfest season like a kid on Christmas Eve. As a performer, you get a free mug of beer and a sausage to enjoy under a sun splashed fest tent every weekend in Autumn. But it’s August 5th, 2020 – my 35th birthday. On top of 5 months of quarantine, it’s just been confirmed that Oktoberfest season is not happening and I’m not taking the news well. During the following three months, I’m irritable, I stop exercising or even taking our kids to the park. I find myself taking comfort in a drink each day after work (then two, then three). I skip Sunday Mass a few times. When I do go, I struggle to find enjoyment. This dude from Holy Cross, Nate, keeps inviting me to these men’s nights. I put him off and make excuses. Then one day in November, I’m at the grocery store scooping flour from the bulk bin (to support my bread baking habit) when Nate walks up to me and asks me what I’m planning on doing with eight pounds of organic unbleached flour, and if I would be so good as to lead a men’s small group. I panic a little, forget to answer the first question, and reluctantly tell him that I would be interested in a small group.

It’s September 13th, 2021 as I write this. For the last nine months, I’ve risen early every Wednesday morning eager to spend an hour in the St Clement basement praying with and for the dudes in my small group. We have supported each other in going back to confession so we can be better husbands and fathers. I learned the rosary and Lectio Divina (where I meditate on as little as three words of scripture and invite God to order my life in accordance with His will). Some Saturdays, we get up early to take a truck ride to Foley, MN to pick up fresh eggs, meat, and honey for the Catholic farm-to-table service one of our men started. Once a month, we pray with and serve breakfast to friends outside our small group. We walk with each other and get glimpses of what the St. James calls the wisdom from above that is pure, peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits.

I did get Oktoberfest back last weekend. I derived all my former enjoyment from the dancing, beer, and sausage, and more: I found myself eager to find out how friends are really doing (beyond the Midwestern “Oh, I’m good”). I left the fest an hour before I normally would because I’m excited to make breakfast and start tomorrow in prayer with my wife and kids. On my way home from the fest, my mind was wandering, so I took advantage of the rosary (I even remembered the correct mysteries for Saturday’s). I still have times of irritability, intemperance, and mistrust, but I have five men who support me and count on me in turn every week.

If you find yourself longing for God’s order of fellowship, breaking of bread, and support in prayers, then an opportunity has been sent to you today. Men or women in a newly formed small group are waiting for you to walk with them. If interested or curious, visit: https://bit.ly/hcsmallgroups or email that dude, Nate Whipple ([email protected]). I look forward to hearing your small group story. God bless you and give you his peace.
