If you have never heard Father Jude speak, you are missing such a treat! Father Jude rode his motorcycle from Galveston to our meeting and entertained us with humor and very interesting thought provoking insights. Father Jude Ezuma said that vocations starts with family and community of the faithful.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointed you as prophet to the nations, Jeremiah, 1:5.

What is “prophet”? The one who speaks for God. “I represent that person, declared Father Jude. Do you hear an echo? It may

be God calling. God desires our happiness, more than we do. Discerning what God wants for you, that is true happiness.” Father described himself as a typical teenager, not really interested in studies, or even church. He was really interested in time with friends and playing. He went to church and he prayed, but it was mom’s mandate that the family do so. This was the foundation to hear God’s call. Then, he heard his echo. His friend, Michael, told him about seminary life, and this young man from Lagos, Nigeria, had a sudden and unexpected desire to also join the seminary. His heart was struck by God’s echo. This decision surprised all, including Father Jude and his family.

Father Jude, began his Seminary Formation in 2000 with the Josephites. He chose the name “Jude” because of his mother’s devotion to Saint Jude. In 2006, he joined the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. He was ordained into the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on June 4, 2011. He has had several assignments, including secretary for Cardinal DiNardo and Parochial Vicar of the Co-Cathedral, and since 2017, has been the Pastor of Holy Family Parish, in Galveston Bolivar. There are 6 churches in Galveston and the people are served by three priests; their goal, declared Father Jude, is to help people to hear how God is calling them.

Always listen for the ECHO.

On Friday, Apr. 21, Archdiocesan priests and St. Mary’s seminarians came together for a friendly competitive basketball game. The game was held at Strake Jesuit Competition Gym, which was filled with an estimated 3,000 who watched the 30-35 participants shoot hoops. The game began with prayer and the national anthem sung by students from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic school. The priests team, the Martyrs, won the inaugural shootout 50 to 47.
