Collect of the DayCelebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you.

Celebrant Let us pray.

God of all who wander and wonder, you go before us as a beacon and guide. Lead us through all danger, sustain us as we inquire and grow, and bring us home to your land where with fresh eyes we'll see your Grace at work in the world about us. Amen.

The Word of God

3

First Reading Isaiah 41:13, 17-20 For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand;it is I who say to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’ When the poor and needy seek water, and there is

none, and their tongue is parched with thirst,I the Lord will answer them,I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys;I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive;I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, so that all may see

and know, all may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

Psalm 84: 1-7How lovely is your dwelling place,   O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints   for the courts of the Lord;my heart and my flesh sing for joy   to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home,   and the swallow a nest for herself,   where she may lay her young,

4

at your altars, O Lord of hosts,   my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house,   ever singing your praise.Happy are those whose strength is in you,   in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the valley of Baca   they make it a place of springs;   the early rain also covers it with pools. They go the pilgrims way from strength to strength;   the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

The Epistle From Paul’s letter to the HebrewsTherefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,  looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is weak may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness with which we will know the Lord.  See to it that no one is denied the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble.

Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. The people stand to sing the hymn and remain standing for the Gospel.

Hymn at the Sequence We walk by faith, and not by sight Hymnal 209

Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ accordingto Mark.

People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

 Holy Gospel Mark 1: 16-20

As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fish for people.’ And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

Gospeller The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Sermon The Reverend Timothy Boggs

A period of silence is observed.

The people stand for the Creed and stand or kneel 6

for the Prayers.

The Nicene Creed

Celebrant and People:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven

7

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Celebrant continues

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

13

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
