So much has happened and there’s still so much to look forward too! I have been filled with a burning passion for service after my AMAZING service-learning trip to Nicaragua for the first 3 weeks in August. I zip-lined, shopped for my food in a market, played street soccer in the rain with the cutest kids, swarm in a volcano lake, and even got to teach English to Nicaraguan students who were very eager to learn(I wish I had their enthusiasm for learning)! All of those things were great and tons of fun, but they don’t even compare with the people I met or the service we performed side by side with the community members. With a group of about 21 other teens from all over the country, we not only dug out canals so that the community could have irrigation to water their crops, but we also helped build a house for a local family. Seeing how your service helps those in need is one of the most fulfilling things that you can experience. You don’t have to travel to a third world country to see your service in action. People in YOUR community need help EVERYDAY; they need YOU. As you look around you may be wondering where is the need, but it’s everywhere you look. The elementary school. The animal shelter. The local food bank. Local non-profits. Everywhere. Service projects are all around you if you just open your eyes! I urge you to immerse yourself in your community and help out as much as you can over this next year; with or without Key Club(obviously I think you should do it with Key Club). Make the most of your time and have a blast while doing it and helping those less fortunate—I promise you’ll enjoy yourself. Stay active in your Key Club and don’t forget to do your homework! Division 39 North, Wow, has it really only been a month? So much has happened and there’s still so much to look forward too! I have been filled with a burning passion for service after my AMAZING service-learning trip to Nicaragua for the first 3 weeks in August. Do you want a Divisional T-shirt?

Submit an idea to me by October 1st and the person with the winning design will get a FREE t-shirt!

Sam Houston High School officers proudly sport their new shirts for the 2011-2012 year. Send me your clubs shirt for this year and it’ll be in the October newsletter!

Shoes for Orphan Souls is the Kiwanis District Governor’s project for this year. Collect socks and shoelaces all sizes and colors and shoes(Leather or Canvas athletic sizes infant to 13). All must be NEW. Bring them to the October PCM and I will collect them to give to the Kiwanis Governor!

Members from Colleyville Heritage High School visited Arlington High School’s Chick-Fil-A fundraiser last week to show their divisional love for one of their fellow clubs in Division 39 North!

If you haven’t already had your Officer

Installation Ceremony, now’s the time! You can have it whenever you want where ever

you want (you can even have it at Chuck E. Cheese!)

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is right around the corner(October 31st); this is one of my favorite service events! I expect each club to

participate. If you raise over $250 you will receive a patch at DCON

2012 for your banner!

Collection Idea for your club: Ronald McDonald House Charities. Collect

“pop tabs”(those things on the top of soda cans) and

donate them to help pay for the utilities of the RMH.

Colleyville Heritage HS did this last year and Sam

Houston HS has started this year!

Chalk Talk: Need a cheap easy way of advertising for your meetings? Tired of buying poster board? Use sidewalk chalk! Write the location, date, time on the sidewalk out in front of your school and invite people to come learn about and join Key Club!

KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL

Join your school’s Key Club today if you aren’t already a member! You’ll never regret it.

Volunteer your time at local service events within your community, such as Special Olympics. The feeling you get from helping people is gratifying.

Ways to get your members involved: -Ask them to write articles for the Tex-O-Key -Create a Facebook page for your club -Show them that you care through awards and recognition for their service

Motto: Caring- Our Way of Life. Vision: “We are caring and competent service leaders transforming communities world-wide.” Origin: Sacramento High School in Sacramento, California in 1925 originally started as a club only for boys. Girls were then admitted in 1976. Why is it called Key Club? Do you make keys? No. We don’t make keys, we make a difference. When Key Club was first started in Sacramento HS, it was comprised of the Key students who led the school.

September issue of the Tex-O-Key will be: “Community Unity”.

Presidents RESOURCE CDs: Colleyville Heritage,

Guyer, Krum, Lamar, and Ryan NEED to be present at the Fall Training Conference on September 17th I have your RESOURCE CDs and you need them.

PHONE CALLS: Everyone needs to schedule a phone call with me to talk about the logistics for the year. I have been lenient in the past with those who have not responded to my e-mails but this information is IMPORTANT and it needs to be discussed.

CLUB VISIT TOUR: I will be making rounds to everyone’s Key Club within the next three months so you need to schedule a Club Visit with me either during a meeting or, preferably, at a service event.

decided to get a joint Digital AD for DCON 2012 at our last board meeting so don’t forget to budget in $20! Money collection will occur in October.

DUES: $12.50 + club dues. Total CANNOT exceed $19.00

Youth Opportunity Fund deadline is October 15th! Look at the July Newsletter(page 5) if you don’t remember what this is or e-mail me!

Sail the High Seas of Service

Fall Training Conference [FTC] Region 7(Divisions 1N, 1S, 8, 39N, 39S)

Don’t forget to dress up with the theme. You could be a sailor, a pirate, a tourist on a cruise ship, a hula girl, or a mermaid; the possibilities are endless! Get creative! Everyone who dresses up will get a prize and the #1 best dressed will receive something extra special!

WHO: Most importantly officers and advisors, but Key Club members are free to attend as well. The more the merrier!

WHAT: The ONLY time during the year in which officers get trained and receive proper advice on how to do their job. Your attendance is of the utmost importance!!

WHEN: Sat., September 17th, 2011 from 9AM-2PM

WHERE: North Crowley High School 9100 S. Hulen St. Fort Worth, TX 76123

**Breakfast and lunch will be served. There will be a short 15-20 minute PCM during lunch.

FTC Manifest

Arrrrghhhh, ahoy mi mates an’ welcome aboard the U.S.S FTC, a ship destined for the land of service! Here you will learn all about what it takes to make the proper first mate- you will receive training that will help you be the best you can be this next year as a Key Club leader in your school. Buckle your belts, fasten your wooden legs, and whistle for your birds; this is one day you won’t want to miss!

This be “argghh” division mates.

During the FTC we will be writing letters to troops and we will be collecting items to send to the troops as well(an item list will be e-mailed out at least one week before). These TWO PROJECTS satisfy the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for the GOVERNOR’S PROJECT patch at the end of the year. If you partake in these two projects at the FTC and fill out the project completion forms, you WILL receive a patch at DCON in April 2012!
