Our student population is diverse in both demographics and economic background. With 34.6% of students being English Language

Learners compared with the state average of 14.4%, we are also uniquely positioned to evolve into a dual language district with bilingual graduates. This focus on duallanguage acquisition and teaching globalready skillssupports our vision of international competitiveness for our graduates.

Our schools and students are supported by active PTAs, local nonprofit foundations, youth servicesfocused organizations, and a variety of privatepublic partnerships and individual philanthropists. We are grateful for thedeep and broad support provided to our community schools and the students of Eagle County.

Cultural and Class Conflicts in MentorMentee Matches: Strategies forMentoring Organizations and Professionals

Thursday, September 17, 20151:00 pm 2:15 pm EDT

Far too many of us are uncomfortable discussing race, culture and class. Respondingto conflict of "cultural and class tension" can be challenging for even the mostexperienced professional, but lack of discussion can negatively impact howmentoring programs recruit, support and engage mentees and mentors.

Practitioners and researchers believe that this "cultural and class tension" can beattributed to lack of proper screening, inadequate cultural competency training,

deficit thinking by the mentor, and unwitting microaggressions that play out duringthe match.
