Paul notes that the life insurance profession has served him well, creating not only a source of income toraise his family in an honorable quality business, but also giving him the opportunity and privilege to meetso very many people throughout his 55 years–good people on which friendships were founded as well asworking with quality co-workers in the profession.

FALLS CHURCH, VA (July 23, 2009)— In response to the Treasury Department sending to Capitol Hill

draft legislation to create an Office of National Insurance, NAIFA President Cliff F. Wilson, CLU, ChFC,

LUTCF, CLF issued the following statement:

“NAIFA supports the Administration’s plan to establish a federal office of insurance expertise. There are a

myriad of federal agencies that have a role in regulating different aspects of the insurance sector, and yet we

remain the only financial services industry for which there is no one central federal body of expertise. This

has been particularly troublesome given the financial crisis, which has illustrated the inter-connectedness of

the financial services sector both at home and abroad. The turmoil has also highlighted the essential need

that policymakers have a comprehensive understanding of all the elements of the financial marketplace,

including the $5 trillion dollar life insurance industry, when making decisions about regulatory restructuring

and new policies on how best to protect consumers.

“NAIFA believes Title V of the Administration’s plan will go along way to finally close the federal

information gap, and we look forward to a continued dialogue with the Treasury Department and with

Congress to ensure the agent’s voice is heard as we work through this complex regulatory reform process.”

Lighten Up!

During this global economic crisis, simplifying our work activity is the key to success. When we get rid ofunprofitable burdens and organize, we can focus on more important things.

We live in a world with an overwhelming volume of information. My cabinet and desk drawer used to be full ofinformation. I had a long list of favorites in my computer with lots of newsletters and lots of files that I thoughtone day would become necessary.

As a saver of information, I spent too much time looking for what I must have saved somewhere. If I couldn’t find it quickly, I was bothered throughout the day and my performance suffered. Finally, I realized that myfrustration had a negative power and restrained me from moving forward.

One day, I decided to throw away everything except for the most important things. I developed a worksheet tocrystallize my thoughts using these questions: What? What is important to my life? Why? When the world is confusing, I need to know in which direction I am heading. When? When do I start? Where? Where is my market? Who? Who am I? How? How do I want my future to be? What should I keep and what needs to be added? Hot? Is it something I am enthusiastic about? How much will it cost me? Is this something to invest in?

It took me days to get rid of all the junk I had saved over the years. But after a week, I could once againclearly see my goals and purpose. I also found I could concentrate more and my performance improved.

Successful insurance professionals have a routine activity to follow in order to be successful. The first step isto determine your routine and then focus on that only. Get rid of unnecessary stuff and lighten up.

Clean up your desk. Get rid of the paper and documents piled up on the desk. A messy environment willonly bring messy thoughts. Confusion creates negative power.

Eliminate e-mail. Get rid of old e-mail in the inbox. Once a week, I delete unimportant messages.

Pass on unqualified clients. Give unqualified clients to your staff or new agents in your office. They will behappy to serve them.

Focus on the important work. Every morning, I review my schedule for the day and find as many tasks aspossible to delegate to my assistant.

More is not necessarily better. Be selective. Think of what is most important to you. Focus on what youvalue. Do the things that are good for you, your family, your community and the world.

NAIFA-Fort Worth Cares! As ambassadors of the companies we represent, we are called to serve a higher purpose. As responsiblemembers of the community, we are called to help those less fortunate than us.

We serve families and businesses though our actions as financial advisors, and often we are called to help ourcommunity by giving our time and financial support. There are many wonderful organizations in our area needour help.

So, how can we help? By tapping into our personal financial resources and ability to leverage our timeand energy through others.

Each of us have limited financial resources, but we can turn our time into money by contacting our vastdatabase of clients, prospects, associates, and family members to solicit donations of their time and money.

Members of NAIFA- Fort Worth for years have made donations of their time and money. This year, we havechosen several organizations to help. With our busy schedules, helping with every project would be too timeconsuming. Please consider each project, and choose one or more that you can help with, as time permits. You can help coordinate community events for NAIFA-FW by becoming part of the Community ActionCommittee. 2-3 hours a month spent coordinating events, and contacting members, is the best way you canhelp.
