DESCRIPTION

This is the September newsletter of the Baughman United Methodist Church in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

TRANSCRIPT

  • Someone recently said that Baughman ought to be renamed Baughman Ignited Methodist Church. Heres one reason why: Sunday, August 24th, Dave led a friend to Christ! This is significant to Baughman UMC be-

cause David attended our Conference on Evangelism just the day before!

In less than 24 hours Dave applied what he learned at Baughman, and

shared Christ with someone else. The result was his friends conversion!

This is what were all about here at Baughman UMC Changing lives through Christ. Indeed, sharing Christ is basic to our United Methodist

mission To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The Evangelism Conference was a great event. 80 people attended, ten of

whom were clergy. Over 20 different churches in the Harrisburg, West

Shore, York, and Carlisle were represented.

    Those who attended learned:

    Christ is caught, not taught.

Evangelism is a process, not an event. AND

Effective evangelists can tell others the difference

    Jesus has made.

Baughman UMC continues to get stronger. We are now shifting our focus

from taking care of ourselves, to reaching out to others. Praise God!

Alright Folks, it's time to get those FREE FAITH LIFT Yard Signs out of

storage and put them on your lawns, by the roadside, and/or at work for the

month of September. September is a month of new starts. Vacation is over

and it's a time of new beginnings. We want people to have Baughman Me-

    Knapke,

    Jr.

Two months ago Win started talking about an Evangelism Conference. Every time he talked about it I kept hearing a voice questioning if I should go. I was very skeptical.

Two weeks before the Conference Dottie Myers, Stephanie Rehrer and I were talking in Sunday school about this Conference. I said that I didn't want to participate because I don't have a testimony to share and Win would make me get up in front of the church. My story just wasnt remarkable. I wasn't a prostitute or a drug addict. Like the old hymn I wasnt lost and then found, I wasn't blind and then could see. I have just been coming to Baughman since I was two. There's nothing profound in that. Well, Mike Moyer was in class also that Sunday and said it wouldn't be like that. So we all decided to sign up.

The conference was fantastic. The speakers were diverse, but all showed how they are spreading the Holy Spirit. On Friday night Jesse, an 82 year old missionary evangelist, spoke with us about how he goes out to the people on the streets to spread the good news. On Saturday Hannah spoke with us about how to reach secular people, maybe in the workplace or your neighborhood. The last speaker was Dan who was in-strumental in developing Christian leaders within the eight Ivy League universities. He spoke with us about the art and science of everyday Evangelism. He said this is a process, not an event.

After this conference we all came away equipped to tell our stories, no matter how undramatic, and help turn others to Jesus Christ. We will be holding another conference next year on August 28 and 29, 2015 so please mark your calendars and join us.
