COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe primary goal for this conference is to demonstrate use of systems engineer-ing and operations research methods to achieve meaningful improvements to the effectiveness of health care practices.
OurconferenceonSystemsEngineering&OperationsResearchinHealthCarewillbeanoutstandingeventprovidingsubstantialvalue to our colleagues. Increasing demand for new knowledge and skills, adoption of new standards to improve patient outcomes, and translation of cutting edge research into effective patient care require that health care professionals enhance their current understanding and knowledge of system engineering and operations research methods. We intend to provide participants with awarenessandbasicknowledgeofthesemethods and their potential application in improving health care operations.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon conclusion of this program, participantsshouldbeableto:
• Comparethemajorsystemsengineeringandoperationsresearch(SE/OR)methods.
• IdentifytheappropriateSE/ORmethod(s)to apply to specific health care operations problems.
• IncorporateSE/ORmethodsintoclinicalandoperationalproblemsolving.
• Describethecapabilitiesofsimulationmodels.
• Identifyproblemsinhealthcareoperationsthatcouldbeaddressedwithasimulation model.
• Interprettheresultsofacost-effectivenessanalysis.
• AssessbottlenecksinsurgicalpatientflowusingSE/ORmethods.
• AnalyzesurgicalsuiteschedulingefficiencyusingSE/ORmethods.
• Describethecapabilitiesofforecastingmodels.
• EvaluatetheperformanceofpatientaccessstrategiesusingSE/ORmethods.
